This is a very creative poem about estate planning in the style of Dr. Seuss written by attorney Dawn Levin of Marietta, Georgia. It is a great little poem!
In planning your estate, there's much to decide,
What happens to your things when you've sadly died?
It may seem quite morbid, but it's smart to prepare,
So let's take a moment and plan, with great care.
You'll need a will, that's the first step to take,
To ensure your assets are divvied up without mistake.
It can be simple or complex, it's up to you,
But without one, your assets may not go where you intended them to.
Consider your beneficiaries, those who'll receive,
Your savings and assets once you take your leave.
Make sure to update them if things do change,
Or your assets could go to someone quite strange.
If you have minor children, choose a guardian with care,
To take care of them in case you're no longer there.
Discuss it with them, make sure they're willing,
So your children are protected, their future fulfilling.
Creating a trust can make sure assets are protected,
To ensure they avoid probate and aren’t misdirected.
A trust can ensure your wishes are met,
Even after you've gone, without any regret.
In estate planning, there are many things to do,
But it's important to take the time to see them through.
Don't leave it to chance, it's not worth the wait,
Plan your estate now, before it's too late.
