⚖️ Downtown LA court morning.

I recently appeared at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles County Superior Court on a legal name change petition. The matter was heard in late January, and we later obtained the certified decree from the clerk in February.

While name change matters may appear straightforward, cases involving minors can sometimes present additional service and notice challenges that must be carefully addressed before a judge can issue a name change decree.

With careful preparation, we were successful at the calendared hearing.

Legal name changes can be important moments in helping align a person’s legal identity with the life and family they know every day.

Today I assisted multiple proposed guardians in obtaining permanent legal guardianship.

More than two guardians? Yes — California law permits it when properly presented and when it serves the best interests of the child/children.

Every family structure is different. The case strategy should reflect that reality.

A year of clarity and intention.

The final quarter of 2025 required presence.

Court appearances, long-pending matters finally heard, a successful ex parte matter, new guardianship filings, estate planning review meetings and other in-person meetings, estate planning signings, probate investigations, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status matters, and continuing legal education completed in between it all.

From Los Angeles to Orange County to Riverside, I showed up where the work required me to be.

I closed out the year with my final hearing today, New Year’s Eve. A temporary guardianship was granted, placing a family on a path toward stability.

This work is about showing up when required — and doing it thoroughly and responsibly.

Signing off for the remainder of 2025.

See you in 2026.
