Kansas voters will see another constitutional amendment on the ballot this November. Do you know what HCR 5004 does?

The proposed amendment addresses voter qualifications in the Kansas Constitution and would change the language to state that no person is a qualified elector unless they are a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old and a resident of the voting area where they seek to vote, subject to existing residency exceptions.

The Kansas Constitution already states that U.S. citizens who are at least 18 and meet residency requirements are qualified electors.

A vote YES would adopt the proposed language.

A vote NO would leave the current constitutional language unchanged.

Constitutional amendments can be easy to overlook on a ballot. Take the time to understand what you’re being asked to decide before you vote.

Proposing an amendment to section 1 of article 5 of the constitution of the state of Kansas to require individuals to be citizens of the United States, at least 18 years of age and a resident of the voting area in which such person seeks to vote in order to vote in this state.
