Yu Law LLC, Small Business Attorney

Yu Law LLC, Small Business Attorney Hi, I'm Angela! MY STORY:
After earning a law degree (Rutgers University School of Law) and M.B.A. All the while, I was also exploring my love of travel.

I'm a corporate lawyer turned location-independent business owner who uses her legal expertise to help other female entrepreneurs build their own dream businesses. (Rutgers Business School), I focused my attention on becoming a sharp legal mind. My work included everything from negotiating day-to-day business contracts to selling multi-million dollar assets for small and large companies alike. I t

ook my first solo international trip (Tanzania), followed by another (Ecuador), and then another (Japan). I was hooked! I loved getting to see the world, and knew I could find a way to combine a law career and my love for adventure. As it turns out, the most adventurous people are entrepreneurs, and that’s why I love working with them. I help entrepreneurs with what they avoid and keeps them up at night (the legal side of their business) so they can focus on what matters to them the most (their business). I didn’t know it at the time, but my legal career up to this point was building towards working with entrepreneurs. Every time I was advising a sales person on a deal, drafting a new contract for a new customer, or helping human resources hire someone new, I was flexing my muscle of translating legal language into understandable information while protecting my clients. Today, I use these strengths to set my clients up for success so they can pursue their dreams and live in a way they never imagined. Whether my clients are starting a new career or a side business based in passion, I’m here to help with their goals.

When it comes to situations where our business is at risk, we all think "That's something that happens to other people. That won't happen to me."

As a result, you get into situations where you're backed into a corner and now you have fewer solutions/options, you're in a complete state of overwhelm, and your client experience suffers because now you have to drop everything to deal with putting out this legal fire in your business.

It's not a pleasant place to be and I never want you to have to experience that. If you have a legal emergency in your business, of course we can figure out a solution but ideally we put safeguards into place in your business so we never reach that point in the first place.

As we head into the final two quarters of 2023, set yourself up for success with a legal audit or 1:1 legal counsel so you start off 2024 with the right legal foundations. Send me a message to get started.

Contracts may seem like a tedious part of business, but they are the cornerstone of any successful partnership. You shouldn't enter a business partnership without one that you're 100% confident will protect you (and that you actually understand, as a matter of fact.)

Not every lawyer has contract negotiation experience and knows what to push for, when to push, and when to back off (I do).

Instead of an all-or-nothing mindset, let's approach your business with a win-win mindset where both parties walk away excited to work together.

If you are entering into any partnerships where you need (or want) to negotiate your terms, let's talk.

Some signs that your business goals & your legal strategy are misaligned ⬇️

1. Your contract isn't covering the offer you're selling most (the one you swore was a "one-off").
2. You started off with a contract you found online or a friend with a "similar business" gave you and never upgraded (seriously, some of the ones I've seen out there are terrifying).
3. You're taking bigger risks in your business but haven't updated your legal strategy from when you first started your business.
4. You're waiting for something to go wrong, instead of setting a foundation to allow something to go right .
5. You never read the contracts you get from bigger clients because you think you can't negotiate.
6. That service you bought isn't delivering on its promise and you don't know what your options are to get out of it.
7. The same issues keep happening with your clients and you haven't addressed it.
8. Your business partner keeps changing the deal on you and you never signed a contract.
9. You have a sneaking suspicion that you're missing something in your legal strategy and don't know where to start.
10. You haven't set anything up on the legal side of your business and you already have clients.

So how did you do? If your legal strategy doesn't support your business goals, then it's time to re-evaluate your legal strategy.

If you're a social media influencer, you're an entrepreneur too. 👏

You might not think of yourself as a traditional entrepreneur or business owner, but for all intents and purposes, you're considered a self-employed business owner.

If you're a social media influencer or content creator, at some point you'll likely enter into various contracts and agreements with businesses, brands, and agencies such as: brand partnerships, sponsorship agreements, influencer campaigns, endorsement deals, and content licensing agreements.

Working with a business attorney can help ensure that your contracts are fair, protect your rights and interests, and minimize potential legal risks.

We can also help you review the terms, negotiate on behalf of the influencer, and make sure you truly understand the legal implications of the agreement.

If you're a social media influencer or content creator interested in getting a lawyer on your team so we can get you the most favorable terms as possible, then send me a message and let's explore what it would look like to work together this year!
