It was an honor representing Andre in this extremely difficult complicity case. The Constitution holds the State to a burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt and the Court found it could not meet that burden. Our sincere condolences to the victims and their families who have suffered greatly, but justice is not always a conviction.

Andre Jackson was acquitted of all charges stemming from a 2022 shooting that killed Jonathon Coleman and injured two others.

This case wasn’t about “witnesses” not appearing. It was about the justice system working and the Judge having the courage to follow the law. We were honored to have represented Raequan.

This woman never thought she would need the services of a criminal defense attorney until tragedy struck. Whether it’s in court or the court of public opinion, it’s important to have an experienced lawyer, sensitive to complex issues, on your side. Where this client was pleased with the result of this case, she would trade anything to have her grandson back.

We are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Jameshia Taylor. While the circumstances of her passing are unknown at this time, we hope that the community will give her family privacy as they mourn the loss of a daughter, a sister, a cousin, a friend, and a mother. Let us remember that she was a person, she was someone’s “everything” for a MUCH longer time than she was a Defendant.

Despite the allegations against her, Jameshia loved her children - and they loved her back, even after the pain she inflicted. The effects of mental illness are almost impossible to fully understand unless you’ve experienced it or are close to someone who suffers from it. If you think that you or someone you love is experiencing a mental illness, there are many services in our community willing to help. Please, ask for help.

I'm proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the Toledo Bar Association and I'm equally as proud to stand by this statement personally and professionally.

TBA Statement Regarding the Killing of George Floyd and Racial Injustice:

The Toledo Bar Association joins the Nation in condemning the killing of George Floyd and the countless others who have experienced injustice because of the color of their skin.

We believe that black lives not only matter, but black lives are valued, black lives are worthy and black lives deserve justice.

As lawyers, we are sworn to uphold the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the State of Ohio. Accordingly, we have a responsibility to speak out and act against injustices and to condemn intolerance. In the words attributed to Benjamin Franklin, “Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.”

The Toledo Bar Association pledges to work to promote and advance the values of inclusion and equal justice, which are fundamental principles of this organization and of the legal profession.

We will work within our Association and we will join the larger community in honest reflection, conversation and action to assure equal justice for all.

Peter G. Rost, President
Toledo Bar Association
