Rose L. Hubbard, Attorney at Law

Rose L. Hubbard, Attorney at Law Experience. In family law, experience DOES make a difference. Compassion. We genuinely care about what happens to our clients and their children. Common Sense.

Rose has 35 years of experience in family law, handling divorce, paternity, child custody, parenting time, child support, and spousal support and other modifications, as well as estate planning, wills, trusts and probate. If you hire either Rose or Mike, you are hiring an attorney with more than twenty years of experience, who has been in a courtroom literally hundreds of times and faced a wide va

riety of family law issues, with a second attorney also with more than twenty years of experience behind you as well. If you want to settle your case, experience is just as important when it comes to evaluating and negotiating a result you can live with. We enjoy being family law attorneys because it gives us an opportunity to genuinely help people at a difficult point in their lives to build a constructive path forward, with an eye to minimizing the collateral damage that can occur from the process. Because we care about what happens to our clients and their children, we help you make better decisions that affect your life. We never forget the fact that the “case” is our client’s life. Family legal problems deserve to be handled with an eye on the costs of the process, financial, legal and emotional. Litigation is not the only way, and often not the best way, to resolve a family law problem. Every case requires a serious review to determine if there is a solution short of the court room. There are many ways to settle a divorce or other family law case without putting your life in the hands of a stranger in black robes. A few methods of alternative dispute resolution include four-way client and lawyer settlement meetings, county and private mediation (with or without attorneys), judicial settlement conferences, and arbitration. We work hard to find the right solution for you. If the case cannot be settled for whatever reason, we are ready to advocate zealously for you in a courtroom.

If you are going through a divorce, or the aftermath of a divorce, or know someone who would benefit from some advice, here are some zen thoughts that are good to meditate on, to make part of our daily routine, and to help focus on finding a path through the insanity called divorce to get to a road of your own choosing. There is a wonderful book that I read years ago, a wonderful surprise because I didn’t think I would like the book much less remember it so well for years. The book is Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig.

A few years ago, a young pastor from Cedar Mills Christ United Methodist Church called up Habitat for Humanity and said that his church would like to buy the lumber and build them frames for a house, and give it to them. The immediate response was “No way. It can’t be done.” The answer for the past two years is “yes way.” This year, about 200 volunteers, including children as young as 1 years old, gathered for breakfast, then headed out to the parking lot, where lumber that had been precut and organized. Help Build Hope is a nonprofit organization that goes around the country and organizes the building of frames for walls to be donated to Habitat to Humanity to build an affordable house for a low income family. No power tools involved, so all the kids can hammer and participate, we built 44 walls in under 2 hours. Other than the cost of nails and transportation, we had very little hard cost as the lumber was donated from Parr Lumber. Next year, Habitat for Humanity wants to build a triplex with 85 walls. We can do it!!

Oaxaca, Mexico is a state in southern Mexico that is culturally rich but has significant pockets of abject poverty. When you see beautiful embroidery from “Mexico” there is a good possibility that it was made in Oaxaca. However, in Oaxaca, there are also many different “indigenous” tribes of people who do not speak Spanish, and do not think of themselves as Mexican, but rather identify with their tribe. My husband, Gordon Mallon, and I just came back from Spring Texas, where we took a 2 day class from Dr. Joey who runs Vision Compassion, on how to give eye exams using the Focometer, and then do the calculations to be able to prescribe a pair of glasses when you are out on the mission field. We are going to be doing a vision clinic in San Mateo del Mar in Oaxaca next month. Many of the people have never had any vision exams or glasses, and this will be an important first step. Others in the class were headed out to Jordon, Paraguay and El Salvador to do the same. Updates to come!

A common question when a client first comes in to see me is whether they can start dating. It’s a good question. In times past, when you needed to find a fault in order to divorce, a person who committed that fault could have legal consequences including those of support, property and rights to access to children. Are you having communication challenges through your divorce process? Read our recent blog to get a few tips on talking to your opposing party. Rose Hubbard is speaking on a few topics related to this tomorrow, at the Portland Business Forum at 7:30 AM. It is located at Hayden's Grill in Tualatin, Oregon. Hope to see you there!

In any other kind of legal action – criminal or criminal – your attorney is going to tell you not to have any communication with the opposing party, represented or not. There is too much risk that you, as a party, will say the wrong thing, make admissions that will be damaging to your case, or c...
