Seiler was born in Emporia, Kansas, being the first baby born in that hospital on Father’s Day in 1967. Michael’s father was a popular attorney in McPherson County, Kansas, and some of Mike’s childhood memories revolve around him watching his dad in action in the courthouse. Driven at an early age to succeed and quickly so, Mike graduated from the University of Kansas in only eight semesters with
degrees in History and Political Science. Having been bitten by the jurisprudence bug from the countless hours he spent with his father, Mike went on to earn his law degree from Creighton University, shortly thereafter passing the Kansas Bar Exam. In 1992, he migrated to Texas, and 30 days after he had passed the Texas Bar, he was hired as one of only eleven prosecutors in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. Until 2008, he worked in that office under two different elected district attorneys, where he tried many high-profile cases that included criminals involved in intoxication offenses, s*x crimes, and child murder. Seiler rose through the ranks to eventually become a District Court Chief. His hard work was noticed by the Texas legislature, and in 2008 he was appointed Judge of the 435th District Court by Governor Rick Perry. With Seiler on the bench, the 435th District Court carried a full load of criminal cases, and presided over the commitment proceedings in excess of 300 men that were considered for civil commitment. The Texas legislature called the offenders that appeared in the 435th District Court “the worst of the worst,” and Seiler was often congratulated on his tough-but-fair approach. Over the course of his judicial careers, Seiler never lost a contested judicial election. Today, Seiler is a renowned civil and criminal defense attorney based in Montgomery County who enjoys traveling around the state of Texas representing clients in all types of cases. He is one of very few attorneys in the region that have enjoyed successful careers in all three aspects of a courtroom – prosecutor, judge and defender. That, combined with his high profile in the Texas judicial system – being well known by judges and justices throughout the state – and his broad experience in hundreds upon hundreds of different cases involving a myriad of crimes, makes him a formidable presence in the court and a staunch ally to his clients. Mike Seiler is married to his wife Kenna, who is herself a board-certified civil appellate lawyer, and has two children; son Ethan, and daughter Rachel.
