ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY, LITIGATION
Job Summary - Full Time: Salaried Exempt Employee
Norton + Wood is a full service firm with four attorneys in Texarkana, representing clients throughout Texas, Arkansas and Southeast Oklahoma. We have a broad based practice focusing in areas such as personal injury (defense and plaintiffs), family law, probate, probate litigation, commercial litigation and ERISA/Employment civil rights actions.
We are seeking one and possibly two full-time associates to join our legal team. Recent law school graduates as well as attorneys with 1-3 years’ experience are encouraged to apply.
Duties
• Conduct thorough legal research to support case preparation and strategy development.
• Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and contracts.
• Represent clients in court proceedings and administrative hearings.
• Attend and conduct depositions.
• Negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of clients.
• Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations relevant to the areas of practice.
• Collaborate with partner attorneys on complex cases and aid in litigation strategies.
• Communicate effectively with clients to keep them informed about their cases.
Requirements
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Bar License in Texas or Arkansas with the willingness to obtain licensure in the other.
• New law school grads are expected to take the bar exam in the state where they graduated law school and thereafter apply for admittance to the other state through application. Licensure is not required at the outset of employment.
• Strong legal writing skills with the ability to draft clear and persuasive documents.
• Proficiency in legal research tools and databases.
• Excellent negotiation skills with a proven ability to advocate for clients effectively.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while managing individual caseloads.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Ability to manage multiple projects/files simultaneously.
This position is open to soon to be law school graduates, new law school graduates, or attorneys with 1-3 years’ experience who are wanting to relocate to Texarkana. We are looking for an applicant that is seeking a long-term legal career in the Texarkana area.
