When was the last time you reviewed your estate plan? If your answer is “it has been a while,” you are not alone. Many people assume their estate plan is complete once it is signed, but in reality, it should be revisited over time to ensure it continues to reflect your wishes.

Here are a few key things to keep in mind:

🔹Regular Reviews Matter - It is often recommended that you review your estate plan every three to five years to keep it aligned with your current circumstances.

🔹Life Change Updates - Events like marriage, divorce, or welcoming a child should prompt a timely review, ideally within 60 to 90 days after the event.

🔹Know the Common Triggers - The “5 Ds” (death, disability, divorce, distance, and descendants) are considered the most common triggers for a review.

An estate plan should grow and change with you. If it has been a few years since your last review, our team is here to help. Contact us today to get started.

What happens during probate in North Carolina?

While every estate is different, families often encounter several key stages:
• Opening the estate with the court
• Identifying and valuing estate assets
• Notifying creditors
• Addressing valid debts and taxes
• Distributing remaining property to beneficiaries or heirs

Probate can involve important deadlines, documents, and decisions. Tarantino Law helps families in Mooresville, Lake Norman, Terrell, Troutman, Denver, and Sherrills Ford understand the process and move forward with clarity.

Contact our team to discuss probate guidance for your family.

Estate planning isn’t a DIY project. It’s worth getting it right. A few documents can make a huge difference when life doesn’t go according to plan!

The important part? These documents need to work together and fit your specific situation. A template you find online may not give you the protection you think it does.

A lot of people misunderstand what asset protection actually does.

It won’t stop someone from filing a lawsuit. Nothing can guarantee that. What it can do is make sure one legal problem doesn’t put everything you’ve worked for at risk.

That starts with planning before there’s a problem.

Depending on your situation, that may mean separating personal and business assets, choosing the right legal structure, and making sure you have the right insurance in place.

The timing matters, too. Trying to move assets around after a claim has already been made can create even bigger legal problems.

I look at asset protection as preparation, not hiding from risk. The goal is to understand where you’re exposed and put the right protections in place before you need them.

If you own a business or have built significant assets, it’s worth having that conversation now, while you still have options.

If you’d like to talk through your asset protection plan, Eddie can help.
