Q: How often should you update your estate plan?
A: A good rule of thumb is to review it every three to five years — or sooner if something major changes.
That includes things like marriage, divorce, a new child or grandchild, a move, the death of a loved one, a significant change in assets or a change in who you want serving in key roles.
Even if your documents are technically still valid, they may no longer reflect your wishes or your current life.
An estate plan should ideally keep up with your life. It is not something you should set and forget. You can always contact us if you have questions about an existing plan or schedule a free consultation for a new plan.
