Estate planning becomes elder Law when adult children begin to care for their aging parents. Elder law includes updating estate plans, establishing conservatorships, planning for Medi-Cal and VA Aid & Attendance benefits, preventing elder abuse and providing counsel to families throughout the journey of aging. We also handle trust administration, probate and litigation once someone has passed away. We take the time to understand your specific circumstances to custom-tailor solutions that work for you and your family. By earning and maintaining trust, we establish life-long relationships with you. We warmly welcome your family to ours. Call us at (818) 483-4166 for a complimentary evaluation today!

Estate planning and elder law often work best when they work together.

Estate planning helps you decide what happens to your assets, who will make decisions for you if you cannot, and how your wishes will be carried out.

Elder law focuses more on the challenges that can come with aging, including long-term care, Medicaid planning, guardianship concerns, protection from financial exploitation, and maintaining independence for as long as possible.

When these two areas are handled together, families are better prepared for both the expected and the unexpected.

A will or trust is important, but it may not be enough if there is no plan for future care costs, incapacity, or changing health needs. On the other hand, long-term care planning works best when it fits into the bigger picture of your estate plan.

The goal is simple: protect your wishes, your assets, and the people you love.

Wednesday Wisdom: Planning today can help maintain family harmony for years to come.

Final arrangements are never easy to talk about, but leaving loved ones without guidance can make an already difficult time even harder.

A thoughtful plan may include:

• Burial or cremation wishes
• Memorial or service preferences
• Funds set aside for final expenses
• Important document locations
• Digital account information
• Contact details for people to notify

Putting these wishes in writing is not about sadness. It is about clarity, comfort and care.

When your family knows what you wanted, they can spend less time guessing and more time supporting one another. www.goldfarbluu.com

Need to open an estate checking account?

If you are serving as executor, most banks will ask for a few key items before opening the account:

• Certified death certificate
• EIN for the estate from the IRS
• Letters Testamentary or court documents showing your authority
• Valid photo ID
• Basic estate information

An estate account helps keep funds separate, organized and properly documented while assets are collected, bills are paid and distributions are made.

When in doubt, ask the bank what they require before your appointment and contact our office with any questions. www.goldfarbluu.com

Wednesday Wisdom: Becoming a trustee is not always automatic. In many cases, stepping into that role requires the right legal process.

A successor trustee may take over through:

• A voluntary resignation by the current trustee
• A trust amendment naming the new trustee
• Written confirmation of incapacity from doctors
• The specific instructions already written into the trust

The details matter. A well-drafted trust and clear guidance can help avoid confusion, delays and family stress when the time comes. Goldfarb & Luu helps families plan with clarity, care and confidence. www.goldfarbluu.com

Wednesday Wisdom: The person you trust most may not be the best person to settle your estate.

Choosing an executor is more than naming a loved one. This person may need to handle court paperwork, gather assets, pay debts, communicate with beneficiaries, manage property, and make difficult decisions during an emotional time.

Before choosing someone, ask:

• Are they organized and responsible?
• Can they communicate calmly with family?
• Do they have the time to serve?
• Will they act fairly, not emotionally?
• Should you name a backup executor?

The right executor can help protect your wishes and reduce stress for the people you love. Goldfarb & Luu can help you make that choice with clarity and care. https://zurl.co/CEIP1

Monday Motivation: Your legacy should bring comfort, not conflict.

For many older adults, an estate plan was created years ago and then tucked away. But family, finances, health and relationships can all change over time.

Revisiting your plan can help:

• Make sure your wishes are still clear
• Protect children and grandchildren
• Reduce the chance of family disputes
• Update trusted decision-makers
• Preserve peace for years to come

Planning ahead is a loving act. It gives your family guidance, helps protect what matters most and allows your legacy to be carried forward with clarity and care.
