Today we put aside our differences and celebrate America’s birthday. This morning I read our Declaration of Indepence. It ends with the following words. “… we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honour”. Let’s do the same

Please share this article if you know anyone who has had their home or property foreclosed in New York for failure to pay taxes. As the article explains counties are selling the home and keeping the excess. Let’s say the homeowner owed $10,000 in taxes and the home sold for $30,000. Logic would suggest that the county would return the excess to wit $20,000 to the homeowner. Apparently not. The counties have been keeping the money and now the Supreme Court issued a ruling that the excess money must be given to the property owner. It is unclear if it will be retroactive.

Owners of foreclosed properties sold by governments at a profit deserve the money they're owed.

By waiting to the last day to veto this important bill Governor Hochul made it clear that she stands with the insurance companies, nursing homes and hospital industry. Hopefully I am wrong and she negotiates a revised wrongful death statute.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday night vetoed legislation that would have overhauled wrongful...

The Village of Orleans Health & Rehabilitation Center in Western New York is being sued by New York State, alleging years of neglect, abuse and financial fraud. As an attorney representing victims hurt physically, emotionally and financially by institutions, it is heartbreaking to see these allegations. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon and I’ve seen similar neglect and abuse since I first started advocating for the elderly in 1998.

If you are in need of these institutions, we recommend daily visits and that you uncompromisingly advocate for your loved one on a regular basis. Despite your unyielding oversight, neglect and abuse can still occur. Should you need legal counsel, our attorneys are here to guide you through the tenuous process of holding the institution accountable.

You can protect yourself from being sued for the bills of your loved ones by reading the admission agreement very carefully.

Debt lawsuits — a byproduct of America's medical debt crisis — can ensnare not only patients but also those who help sick and older people be admitted to nursing homes, a KHN-NPR investigation finds.
