🏡 WHAT A GREAT QUESTION! 🏡

I LOVE educating consumers when it comes to the one if the most IMPORTANT purchases they will ever make.
It’s been a little while now since Buyer Broker Agreements became a more visible part of the home-buying process, and I still receive this very understandable question:

“Why do I have to sign an agreement before you can show me a house?”

I completely understand why someone would ask—especially if it has been several years since you purchased a home or if you’re buying your very first home. Real estate practices change, and part of my responsibility as your REALTOR® is to help explain those changes in a way that makes sense.

So, let me try to make this explanation as simple as possible. ❤️

A Buyer Broker Agreement puts the relationship between you and your REALTOR® in writing. It explains who represents you, what you can expect from your agent, and how your agent may be compensated.

🔑 REPRESENTATION
It establishes that your REALTOR® is representing YOU and your interests throughout the home-buying process.

💬 EXPECTATIONS
It clearly outlines the services and responsibilities you can expect from your REALTOR® as you search for and purchase a home.

💰 COMPENSATION
It explains how your REALTOR® will be compensated and whether you could have any financial responsibility. I believe these conversations should happen up front, so you have an opportunity to ask questions and understand the terms before moving forward.

🤝 PROTECTION, GUIDANCE & ADVOCACY
Buying a home involves much more than simply opening a door and showing you a property. Your REALTOR® can help you evaluate homes, understand the local market, prepare and negotiate an offer, navigate inspections and contingencies, and work alongside you throughout the transaction all the way to closing.

💁🏻‍♀️And there is one misconception I especially want to clear up:

Signing a Buyer Broker Agreement does NOT mean you are agreeing to buy a home.

You are agreeing to the terms under which you and your REALTOR® will work together.

For me, it really comes down to clarity, transparency and mutual understanding. I never want a buyer to feel pressured or confused about something they are being asked to sign. I would much rather take the time to explain it, answer your questions and make certain you are comfortable before we move forward.

After all, purchasing a home is about YOU—not me. My role is simply to help you through the process, advocate for your interests, and hopefully make the journey a little easier. 🏡🔑❤️
