Due to Tropical Storm Nicole, all courthouse facilities of the 13th Judicial Court will be closed Thursday, November 10th. We are also closed on Friday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day.

As of now, all courts (& Clerk’s offices) are closed in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee, & Sarasota until 8:00am Friday 9/30. No word on Polk or other surrounding counties yet. The Florida Supreme Court is keeping a running list at https://www.floridasupremecourt.org/Weather-Related-Emergency-Orders

*20* years ago today, I was officially sworn in as an attorney of the Florida Bar by the amazing Honorable Barbara Fleischer. I am still close with most of those who stood beside me that day as we began our work in the trenches. The 2nd pic is with Ken/“Rich” & Michelle, my fellow UF Law grads.

NEW LAWS IN EFFECT!! FloridaPolitics.com did a helpful review of the new laws taking effect this month.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Implementation of the constitutional amendment that passed in 2020 began on Friday, with Florida's minimum wage rising to $10 per hour. That number will rise gradually to $15 per hour by 2026.

Florida's smoking and ni****ne use age went from 18 to 21, and the law prohibits smoking or va**ng within 1,000 feet of a school.

Threats made electronically, including the type made generally on social media platforms, are now expressly prohibited.

Some laws take effect in July while others become law in October.
