🚌 School Bus Safety: Do You Know When You Have to Stop?
Seeing a stopped school bus with flashing red lights and a stop arm extended means STOP. But the rules can be confusing when you’re traveling on a road divided by a median.

Here’s the general rule in Florida:
🛑 Two-way road: Traffic traveling in both directions must stop for a school bus that is stopped with its stop signal displayed.
🛑 Divided highway without a qualifying median: All traffic must stop for the bus, regardless of direction.
🛑 Divided highway with a raised barrier or unpaved median at least 5 feet wide: Traffic traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop.Traffic traveling in the opposite direction from the bus does NOT have to stop.

⚠️ Why does it matter? Children may be crossing the road, getting on or off the bus, or walking around the bus where they can be difficult for drivers to see. Passing a stopped school bus can have devastating consequences.

In Florida, failing to stop for a school bus can result in:
📝 Minimum $265 fine
📝 Requirement to complete a Driver Improvement Course
📝 Four points on your driver license.

The bottom line: When in doubt, STOP. Give children the time and space they need to get safely on or off the bus. 🛑🚌
A few seconds of patience could prevent a lifetime of regret.
