🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have protected the freedoms we enjoy every day. At the Matassini Law Firm, we are grateful for those who gave everything for our nation and extend our deepest appreciation to the military families who carry their legacy forward. We especially want to recognize our firm's founder, Nick Matassini who proudly served our country as a United States Marine.

As we gather with family and friends this holiday weekend, may we also take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

☀️🚤 Boating Season Is Here — Safety Should Always Come First 🚤☀️

Spending time on the water is one of the best parts of summer, but a relaxing day can turn serious in seconds when safety is ignored.

With summer kicking off this weekend with Memorial Day, here are some quick reminders about boating responsibly:

✔️ Always wear a life jacket
✔️ Never operate a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs
✔️ Follow speed limits and no-wake zones
✔️ Keep proper safety equipment onboard
✔️ Pay attention to weather conditions before heading out
✔️ Avoid distractions and keep a proper lookout at all times
✔️ Make sure everyone onboard knows basic boating safety procedures

Boating under the influence can lead to criminal charges, serious injuries, and life-changing consequences for everyone involved.

If you or a loved one is injured due to another operator’s negligence, documenting the incident and seeking immediate medical attention is critical to protecting your health and your legal rights.

Enjoy the water responsibly. Safe boating protects you, your passengers, and everyone sharing the lake.

Are you or someone you know facing a Florida Probation Violation? Did you miss a probation officer appointment? Did you test positive for a random drug screening? Or perhaps get arrested on new charges? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I can guarantee I know the next question you have for me:

Am I going to jail?

The quickest answer is jail is a possible outcome, but not inevitable.

Our latest blog post details what a probation violation is, what happens after it is filed, and what can happen at a VOP Hearing. Read more here https://bit.ly/3RaKXXz

🚴‍♂️ Bike to Work Safely: Know the Rules, Protect Yourself, and Stay Alert 🚴‍♀️

Today we celebrate National Bike to Work day- and with the way gas prices are going, we could all use a break from the pump. More people are choosing to bike to work—for their health, the environment, and to avoid traffic. But whether you’re riding downtown or through neighborhood streets, safety has to come first.

Here are a few important reminders about safety on the road as a biker and driver of a vehicle:

✔️ Wear a helmet every ride
✔️ Use lights and reflective gear, especially early morning or evening
✔️ Obey traffic signals and ride predictably
✔️ Stay off your phone and avoid distractions
✔️ Watch for opening car doors and turning vehicles
✔️ Never ride impaired—alcohol and drugs affect cyclists too

Drivers: cyclists have rights on the road. Give at least 3 feet when passing and stay alert at intersections.

If you’re injured in a bicycle accident caused by a distracted or reckless driver, documenting the scene and seeking medical attention immediately can make a major difference in protecting your health and legal rights.

Safe roads benefit everyone. Ride smart, drive responsibly, and look out for one another.

Let’s be direct: can you be arrested in Florida for not paying bail? The short answer is that it depends on what you mean by “not paying bail.” Florida law draws a clear legal line between two very different situations, and most people confuse them. One is a civil matter. The other can land you back behind bars.

Understanding that distinction could be the difference between a manageable financial problem and a warrant for your arrest. Find out more about the distinction bewtween bail versus bond, what happens when you cannot afford the bail, and even revocation by reading our latest post https://bit.ly/4dzCZzU.

So it has happened. You have found yourself in a situation with the law and have hired an attorney to help you. Hiring an attorney is more than signing paperwork — it’s starting a partnership. 🤝

Once you hire your attorney, here’s what you should expect:

✅ Clear communication about your case and next steps
✅ Honest advice — even when the truth is difficult to hear
✅ Regular updates on court dates, negotiations, and case progress
✅ Protection of your rights from insurance companies, prosecutors, or investigators
✅ Thorough investigation and preparation of your case
✅ Prompt responses to your questions and concerns
✅ A strategy tailored to your specific situation — not a “one-size-fits-all” approach
✅ An advocate who fights for the best possible outcome for you

Your attorney should make you feel informed, prepared, and represented every step of the way.

If you ever feel left in the dark about your case, it may be time to ask questions. If your attorney is not meeting your expectations, maybe it is time you find one that does. Reach out to us at 813.217.5715 if you need a better partnership.

🚘 Have you noticed how many more vehicles are on the road lately? And how about all of the road work being done to fix the pot holes around town?

Driving is a huge responsibility that requires you to be alert of all your surroundings. But we know that accidents happen, and they can happen when we have no control over the circumstances. So before you get behind the wheel here are some things to keep in mind:

✔️ Don’t drive distracted—texts can wait.
✔️ Never drive under the influence—plan a ride home.
✔️ Obey speed limits—they’re there for a reason.
✔️ Stay alert—defensive driving can prevent serious accidents.

Make smart choices, protect yourself and others, and keep the roads safer for everyone.

If you ever find yourself dealing with the aftermath of an accident or a charge, know your rights and get the guidance you need.

Stay safe out there. 🚗
