Laura Benson is the owner of the online boutique, Filly Flair. ⁠

Laura started the boutique in 2010 when she was still working on her family’s farm. She made business cards and started handing them out to people at rodeos.⁠

From the end of 2012 to mid-2013, the business grew, and Laura was able to rent a storefront and hire a full-time employee. In April of 2013, she moved her business to a more upscale location and in 2014 Laura was able to quit working at her family’s farm and focus solely on building her business.⁠

Meet Heather Bennett. She is the founder of Paisley Grace Makery, a DIY studio in Fernandina Beach, Florida. In 2015, Heather started her business out of her garage and held mobile DIY art parties. A year later, she realized it was time to open a studio.⁠
⁠
Heather believes that everyone is created to create and that there is an artist in everyone. Her studio takes the guesswork out of creating by providing high-quality materials paired with patient and fun instructors.⁠
⁠
Paisley Grace Makery was built on three core principles: Family, Kindness, and the belief that everyone was made to Create.⁠
⁠
In 2021, Heather had the idea to add the Spread Joy Campaign to Paisley Grace Makery. She decided that each month, people could nominate friends, family members, or even strangers to receive a small gift - a small sign, a DIY Kit, something to make them smile for no reason other than to let them know they are loved.⁠
⁠
She and her team choose 19 people each month to spread joy, love, and kindness to. The number was chosen specifically because her pastor had recently reminded the congregation that on September 11, 2001, 19 people overcome by hate changed our country forever. ⁠

Eileen Willett is the co-founder of Cucumber Clothing, which features luxurious, yet comfortable clothing that is ethical, sustainable, and locally made. ⁠

Eileen and her co-founder launched Cucumber Clothing in 2017 with a mission to create a brand of clothing they could never find. Their goal was to design collections that gave women confidence and made them feel good.⁠
⁠
Eileen says that they [she and her co-founder] know their supply chain “inside and out.” They only use companies that have good working conditions and pay fair wages. ⁠
⁠
She and her partner did learn some hard lessons⁠
along the way. For example, in the early phase of the company development, Eileen and her partner decided to outsource their fulfillment (picking, packing, and shipping to the customer). As they pride their customer experience, they were horrified when they began receiving complaints of wrong garments received, double orders sent, and boxes marked ‘shoes’ (they only make clothing).⁠

“It was a month-long, very expensive experiment with endless firefighting, but it underlined to us the value we place on customer service.” - Eileen Willett ⁠

The company now believes in the power of local and once their fabric is in the UK, everything that they sample, grade, manufacture, store, and send out is done within a five-mile radius of their London base. Eileen says, “we are very proud of our five-mile radius!”⁠
