I have watched people walk out of immigration court after an asylum
denial believing their case is over. I understand why. The judge said no.
And when you have already been through everything it takes to get to
that courtroom, hearing no can feel final.​

It is not final. But the mistake people make next is what makes it final.​

​

After an asylum denial you have options. You can appeal to the Board of
Immigration Appeals. You can petition for review in federal circuit court.
These are real paths. I have walked them. I have won on them.​

​

But every single one has a deadline. The BIA appeal window is 30 days
from the decision. Federal court options follow strict timelines. And once
those windows close, they do not reopen.​

​

I have taken asylum cases that other attorneys said were finished and
reversed them. A denial is the system's first answer. It doesn't have to be
the last one.​

Independence Day means something different when you came to this country by choice.
I arrived in America from Lebanon at 18. Nobody sent me here. Nobody was waiting for me. I came because I believed in what this country stood for — the idea that where you start does not have to determine where you end up. That if you work hard enough, fight long enough, and refuse to quit, this place will meet you halfway.
Fifteen years later, I have dedicated my career to defending that promise for people who believe in it just as much as I did the day I arrived.
This Fourth of July, I am thinking about every family that came to this country with that same belief — and is still fighting to stay.
The American Dream is worth defending. It always has been.
