Bush Ross attorney Courtney Shannon was honored to serve as keynote speaker at the W. George Allen Chapter of Black Law Students Association 2026 Virgil Hawkins Signature Gala.

The event brought together University of Florida trailblazers, law students, faculty, staff, and Dean McAllister to celebrate the regional and national accomplishments of the BLSA and the transition to its new executive board.

Ms. Shannon delivered a powerful message centered on authenticity, resilience, and community. She reminded attendees: “You don’t have to fit the space, you’re called to transform it.” Her remarks encouraged future legal professionals to navigate challenges with confidence and to show up unapologetically as themselves in every room.

The evening was made even more meaningful by the presence of UF Trailblazer Mrs. Evelyn M. Mickle, the first Black graduate of the University of Florida College of Nursing.
