One unexpected part of creating Probate Launch has been having to slow down and really examine how I practice Probate. 🚀⚖️

After years of handling cases, so many things become second nature, how we organize a file, what we ask during intake, how we communicate with families, what we check before moving to the next stage.

But when you're teaching someone else, you have to explain the why behind all of it.

I've found myself going through the systems my team and I use every day and asking, “What would I have wanted someone to explain to me when I was learning this?”

That's been one of my favorite parts of putting Probate Launch together.

I'm excited to keep sharing what I've learned along the way.

🏡 After someone passes away, it can feel natural for family members to begin sorting through their belongings.

Someone takes Mom's jewelry. Another person wants Dad's tools. Furniture gets donated. The house starts getting cleaned out.

But there is an important question that should come first:

Who has the legal authority to distribute the property? ⚖️

When Probate is involved, belongings may be Estate assets, and distributing them too soon can create complications.

Grief already comes with enough difficult decisions. Before selling, donating, or distributing a loved one's property, make sure you understand what should happen next. 💙

One of the reasons I created Probate Launch is that there is so much that happens behind the scenes of a Probate practice. 🚀⚖️

Over the years, my team and I have built systems for intake, workflows, forms, checklists, client communication, and the many moving pieces involved in handling Florida Probate matters.

Those systems have evolved through actually doing the work, case after case, family after family.

Now I'm taking that practical experience and organizing it into Probate Launch so I can share what I've learned with other legal professionals.

It's been exciting to look at the systems we use every day with a new perspective: How can I teach someone else to do this well?

When people think about making a Will, they often focus on the big things: the house, money, and other assets.

But families can also have strong feelings about the smaller things. 💙

Grandma’s jewelry. A collection. Family photographs. Artwork. A piece of furniture that has been in the family for generations.

These items may not have enormous financial value, but their sentimental value can be priceless.

Estate Planning gives you an opportunity to think about more than what you own. It gives you an opportunity to think about what matters to you and who you want to receive it.

That's another conversation worth having this Make-a-Will Month.

But does anyone you trust know where to find them?

📁 A beautiful Estate Planning binder doesn’t help much if no one knows where it is when it’s needed.

Make sure at least one trusted person knows where your important documents are stored and how to access them in an emergency.

It’s a small conversation that can make a very big difference for your family. 💙

Probate Launch grew out of my desire to share that practical experience with other attorneys who are interested in adding Probate to their practices.
