I was attending a Wealth & Wine event recently, and it reminded me of something I often see in family law cases:

No one is meant to navigate life’s biggest challenges alone.

Events like these bring together professionals, business owners, and community members who share knowledge, support one another, and help each other grow. It is a powerful reminder of the value of connection and community.

In family law, I see that same need every day.

Whether someone is facing divorce, navigating a custody dispute, or adjusting to a major life transition, having the right support system can make a meaningful difference. Trusted advisors, supportive friends and family, and experienced professionals can help people move forward with greater confidence and peace of mind.

I am always grateful for opportunities to connect with others in our community and to represent the legal profession in spaces that encourage learning, collaboration, and growth.

Strong communities help people through difficult seasons, and I am honored to play a role in helping families navigate theirs.

If you are facing a family law matter and need guidance, our team is here to help.

We're not promised tomorrow.

That's what inspired today's quote from For the Days You Doubt.

Life moves quickly, and it's easy to assume we'll always have more time to say thank you, show appreciation, mend a relationship, or remind someone how much they mean to us. But sometimes the most meaningful things we can do are the simplest: a kind word, a phone call, a handwritten note, or letting someone know they're loved.

This quote serves as a gentle reminder to give your people their flowers today.

If messages like this speak to you, For the Days You Doubt is filled with reflections designed to encourage, inspire, and offer perspective during life's challenging seasons.

It was truly a pleasure to welcome Colleen Wapole to Lisa Talks for this insightful conversation on dependency cases and mediation.

Colleen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this important area of law, and I appreciated the opportunity to explore the challenges, considerations, and potential benefits of mediation in dependency matters. These conversations help shine a light on topics that impact families, children, and the professionals who serve them.

Thank you, Colleen, for sharing your expertise and perspective. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it.

The biggest advantage in divorce isn't money. It's strategy.

Many people assume the person with the most resources, the most aggressive attorney, or the person who filed first automatically has the upper hand.
In reality, that's not always the case.

Over the years, I've seen how emotions can influence important decisions during a divorce. Understandably, people may feel hurt, frustrated, anxious, or overwhelmed. But some of the most effective decisions are made when emotions are acknowledged, then set aside long enough to focus on the bigger picture.
One of the most valuable things you can do during a divorce is approach decisions strategically rather than reactively.

That also means understanding where leverage may exist in your particular situation. Every case is different. It could involve financial circumstances, temporary court orders, scheduling concerns, or other factors that may affect negotiations and decision-making throughout the process.

The goal is not to "win" a divorce.

The goal is to make informed decisions that protect your future, your finances, and, when children are involved, their best interests.

Having an experienced attorney can help you evaluate your options, understand the strengths and challenges in your case, and make decisions based on strategy rather than emotion.

If you're considering divorce or have questions about your situation, our team is here to help.

"If your spouse always comes last, don't be surprised when the marriage does too."

That statement may feel uncomfortable, especially for parents who devote so much of themselves to their children. But prioritizing your marriage does not mean loving your children any less.

Children need love, support, attention, and guidance. They also benefit from seeing healthy relationships modeled at home.

When parents make time for one another, communicate with respect, and continue investing in their relationship, they are showing their children what partnership, commitment, and teamwork can look like.

The goal isn't to choose your spouse over your children.

The goal is to make sure your relationship doesn't disappear while raising them.

One day, your children will grow up and begin building lives of their own. The relationship you've nurtured with your spouse or partner is the one that remains.

A strong family isn't built by focusing on only one relationship. It's built by caring for all of them.

What are your thoughts on this?

As parents, we often worry about whether we're making the right decisions, saying the right things, or doing enough for our children.

The truth is, our children may not remember every conversation or every challenge we faced.

But they will remember the example we set.

They will remember how we handled difficult seasons, how we treated others, how we showed up when things weren't easy, and how we continued moving forward even when life felt uncertain.

Strength isn't about having all the answers.

It's about perseverance, resilience, and continuing to love the people who matter most through every chapter of life.

What example do you hope your children will remember?

If you're facing a family law matter and working to build a brighter future for your family, we're here to help.

Not every violation of a court order automatically results in a finding of contempt.

In family law cases, courts often look beyond a single mistake and focus on the bigger picture. Is there a clear court order in place? Has there been repeated noncompliance? Is the issue affecting parenting, support obligations, property, or another important aspect of the case?

Documentation can make a significant difference. Keeping records of missed obligations, denied time-sharing, or other violations may help establish a pattern if enforcement becomes necessary.

Every situation is unique, and the right approach depends on the specific facts of your case. Before taking legal action, it's important to understand your options and how Florida law may apply to your circumstances.

If you're dealing with a court order that isn't being followed, we're here to help.

🀣 Lawyers don't mean to be vague... but the legal answer is often: "It depends."

Every case is different, which means the right answer depends on the facts, circumstances, and goals involved. That's not avoiding the question. That's being a good lawyer. βš–οΈ

Court hearing day! βš–οΈ

One question I get asked often is: β€œWhat should I do when I go to court?”

Here are a few quick tips:
βœ… Arrive early. Running into the courtroom out of breath is not the entrance you want to make.

βœ… Dress neatly and professionally. First impressions matter.

βœ… Listen carefully and wait your turn to speak.

βœ… Be honest. Credibility goes a long way in the courtroom.

❌ Don’t interrupt the judge.

❌ Don’t argue with the other party in the hallway, courtroom, or parking lot.

❌ Don’t treat your hearing like a conversation on social media. Eye rolls, sighs, and dramatic reactions are noticed more than you think. πŸ˜‰

Remember, the goal is not to β€œwin” an argument. The goal is to present your case in a respectful and thoughtful way so the court can hear your side.

If you or someone you care about has questions about a family law matter, feel free to reach out to our office. We’d be happy to talk through your situation and help you understand your options. βš–οΈ
