I’m particularly happy with the result of a recent bond hearing we had for one of our detained clients, where an immigration judge set bond at $2,500.

In many immigration courts across the country, it’s not uncommon to see bonds well above this amount. The amount of bond depends on the individual circumstances of each case, but it can also vary considerably depending on the immigration court and the judge assigned. In this case, our hearing was before a judge in California.

If you have a detained loved one, your attorney can give you an idea of the bond amounts typically set in the court handling the case and, when possible, the tendencies of the assigned judge. Please note that no particular bond amount is guaranteed.

Knowing that, in this case, bond was set at an amount our client’s family could manage makes this win feel extra special.

Feliz de cerrar el mes con una orden que le concede la fianza a uno de nuestros clientes. 😊 Este caso avanzó más rápido de lo esperado, incluso para una audiencia de fianza. Un alivio enorme para nuestro cliente y su familia, que no ven la hora de tenerlo de vuelta en casa.

If we haven’t met yet, I’d like to introduce myself.

My name is Angelica Pichardo. I am an immigration attorney licensed in Colorado, based in Florida, and authorized to practice U.S. immigration law in all 50 states.

During law school, I participated in my school’s Children’s Advocacy Clinic, where I advocated for children exiting the foster care system and for youth involved in delinquency matters. I worked with the Immigration and Farmworker Project, assisting children present in the United States without parents, as well as families navigating immigration issues. I also had the privilege of working at the Public Defender’s Office, advocating for indigent clients.

During my second year of law school, I participated in an Alternative Spring Break program in Apopka, Florida, where we were hosted by the Farmworkers’ Association of Florida.

That week opened my eyes.

We were given firsthand knowledge of the struggles uniquely facing immigrant farmworkers, and we observed the back-breaking work they do to keep us fed. I woke up sore after one day in the fields, knowing many endure that labor up to seven days a week while supporting families and navigating an array of complexities, some immigration-related, others health-related, and others the everyday stressors we often do not discuss.

It was also the first time I truly understood how chaotic and unforgiving the U.S. immigration system can be. I remember feeling completely dumbfounded by some of the laws that were preventing people from fixing their status.

This was not a reality I or those closest to me had faced. It was one I only came to understand as a young adult.

My parents immigrated to the United States, my mom from Colombia as a teenager and my dad from the Dominican Republic as a young adult. Growing up, I did not fully grasp what immigration law meant for families like mine. That week changed that.

Today, I represent individuals and families across the country in immigration matters. I genuinely love the work I do, and I have a deep respect for the communities I serve. I cannot promise a particular outcome, but I can promise that you will be treated with preparation, honesty, and care.

I am grateful to continue building a practice rooted in those values. 🩵
