IMMIGRATION UPDATE:
THE I-864 HAS CHANGED
If you are sponsoring a family member for a Green Card, pay attention to this.
USCIS released a new Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, and the updated 08/24/26 edition became mandatory on August 31, 2026 — with NO grace period.

One of the most significant changes is a new authorization allowing USCIS and the Department of State to request information from consumer reporting agencies regarding the sponsor.

👉 Does this mean you need a certain credit score?

No. USCIS has not announced a minimum credit score requirement. A low credit score is not automatically a reason for denial. However, sponsors should take the new financial-review authority seriously and ensure that their information and supporting documentation are accurate and consistent.

Using the old 10/17/24 I-864 after August 31, 2026 could result in the form being rejected.
