If your spouse worked and paid into Social Security, a surviving spouse can often claim benefits as early as age 60, and in some cases, based on a disability, even earlier.

The amount, and the best time to claim, depend on your age, your own work record, and whether you've remarried.

It's one of the more nuanced parts of Social Security, and one of the most overlooked.

What happens to their share if they pass away, get divorced, or want out?

A buy-sell agreement answers it in advance. It sets the terms, the valuation method, and often the funding, so the surviving owners aren't suddenly in business with a spouse, an ex, or an heir who never wanted to be there.

Without one, the business can end up in limbo exactly when it needs stability most.

Q: I regularly work overtime. Will all of that be included in my income for child support?

A: If your overtime is consistent and has been ongoing for a significant period, courts will typically include it in your income calculation for child support purposes. Overtime that is a regular, sustained part of your earnings is treated as income, not as an exception. If your overtime hours have genuinely changed or are no longer available, you can provide evidence of that to show the current figure is not representative.

Q: My ex recently started working much less overtime right before filing for child support. Can the court count their previous overtime earnings?

A: Possibly. If a court finds that the reduction in overtime was voluntary and timed to reduce the apparent income in advance of a child support case, it may impute income based on what the parent was previously earning. You would need to demonstrate the timing and circumstances that suggest the reduction was strategic rather than driven by genuine changes in availability or employer requirements.

Two of the fastest-growing scams right now:

๐Ÿ’ป The "tech support" call โ€” someone claims your computer is infected and asks for remote access or payment in gift cards.

๐Ÿ’” The romance scam โ€” a months-long online relationship that eventually turns into a request for money, always with a reason it can't wait.

Both work the same way: build trust, create urgency, isolate the person from anyone who might ask questions.

If a loved one suddenly has a new online friend they can't quite explain, or is making unusual withdrawals, it's worth a gentle conversation.
