Elder law involves planning for your long-term care and quality of life goals. This includes:
advance directives
incapacity planning
guardianship
power of attorney
financial planning
public benefits and long-term care insurance
your rights in long-term care facilities
long-term care housing and financing
employment and retirement matters
income, estate, and gift tax matters
estate planning
probate
age or disability discrimination
grandparents' rights. Elder law clients are predominantly seniors, and the specialization requires a practitioner to be particularly sensitive to the legal issues impacting these clients. - Summary of Rule Regulating the Florida Bar 6-20.2(a). When Uncle Barry is convinced that Granny’s 1974 copper penny (or 1,000 of them) is a rare mint error worth a cool million... 😂 And Aunt Mildred is just pretty sure it’s enough to buy a nice toaster.

Wait, we actually have to sort through all of this? 🤔
Yep, and that's the point where we step in. From fighting over the vintage coin-jug to figuring out which "collection" is a gold mine and which is... well, just a jar of change. If your family’s inheritance battle involves counting 300,000 dimes, we can help find the true value (and maybe save you a lot of arguments).

Give us a call to sort out the complicated stuff... before it becomes a table-sized headache.

Voting matters to your community AND YOUR HEALTH. A long term study of 10,000 people found that voting may lower your mortality risk for up to five years after you vote. The health boost was regardless of your party affiliation or how you voted (in person or absentee). So, even if you don't like the candidates, GO VOTE FOR YOUR HEALTH!

Voting is typically associated with politics and civil engagement, but a new study finds evidence that voting helps older people live longer.

When your litigation team accidentally coordinates their wardrobes, you know they are operating on the same wavelength. 👔✨

Before heading out to a heavily contested, high-stakes hearing, our team realized they all showed up matching in shades of lavender. While the color coordination was a pure coincidence, their unified front was exactly what the day called for.

Behind the lighthearted moment lies a lot of serious, dedicated preparation. This team walked into a tough courtroom battle ready to advocate fiercely for our client.

The best part of the day? We won the hearing! 👨🏻‍⚖️

More importantly than the win itself is the immense sense of relief we were able to provide to our client.

Moments like these—taking the burden off someone's shoulders and securing the right result—are exactly why we do what we do.

Proud of this team for their hard work, synergy, and accidental fashion statements!

Headline: 🌀 Florida Hurricane Season starts June 1st. Is your legal plan storm-ready?

We talk a lot about securing windows and stocking water, but the most critical vulnerability for seniors during a major storm often happens after the weather clears.

If you or an aging loved one must evacuate or face sudden hospitalization, having immediate, undisputed access to essential legal documents is vital. A standard "will" won't help you in an emergency room or at a bank during a disaster. You need active, enforceable directives.

As the leading voice in Florida elder law, we’ve put together a critical checklist to help you audit your legal documents before storm season hits.

Don't wait until a mandatory evacuation order is issued to realize your Power of Attorney is outdated.

Hurricane preparedness for Florida seniors: special needs shelters, medical equipment plans, nursing home accountability, and avoiding post-storm scams.

Case Closed: It’s Friday! 🐾💼

It’s been a high-stakes week here at The Sketchley Law Firm, but we’re happy to report that the jury is back and the verdict is in: We crushed it. ⚖️✨

Our Lead Counsel (pictured here) is officially trade-marking this look as "The Purr-fessional." Now, he’s heading off to a very important meeting with a bag of catnip and a sunny windowsill.

Wishing everyone a weekend free of "claws" and full of relaxation! 🥂

Late post but BIG news! 🎓✨

Please join us in sending a huge congratulations to Evan on his graduation from Florida State University! Evan has earned his Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication Studies, and we couldn’t be prouder of all he has achieved during his time as a Seminole. 👨🏻‍🎓

While he’s closing this chapter in Tallahassee, his journey is just getting started. This fall, Evan will be heading to the Jacksonville University College of Law to begin his J.D. After conquering law school and the Florida Bar, he plans to practice law right here in the Sunshine State. ⚖️ ☀️

While he is currently exploring different areas of practice, he has shared a strong interest in litigation, and we have no doubt his skills will make him a powerhouse in the courtroom.

Evan has been an incredible asset to our firm, and while we will miss his contributions here, we are so excited to see the impact he will make on the legal profession.

Congratulations, Evan The future looks incredibly bright. 🤩💼

Big news from the courtroom! ⚖️

Yesterday, our Associate Attorney, Tazara, stepped up for her very first hearing as acting attorney. Not only did she handle it with total poise, but she walked away with a "W."

This means Tazara is currently sitting at a 100% win rate. 🏆

We suggested she retire today to keep the stats perfect and go down as a legend, but she’s insisted on coming back to work today to help more clients. Show-off. 🙄

In all seriousness, we are incredibly proud of her hard work and this first of many milestones. Congratulations, Tazara! 👏🎉
