Why might you need a notary?

The benefits of using a notary are:

✅Fraud deterrence - Notaries verify the identity of document signers, that they are fully aware of what they are signing, and that they are signing voluntarily.

✅Legal credibility - Notarized documents are self-authenticating, meaning that they can be accepted in court without further verification, such as a witness

As a general rule, major business, financial, and legal documents should be notarized. These include:

◾Powers of attorney (POA)
◾Depositions, legal statements and other court documents
◾Vehicle titles and bills of sale
◾Property deeds
◾Mortgage documents
◾Leases
◾Financial statements
◾Employment applications
◾Business contracts and work agreements

Preparing beforehand helps to ensure a smooth notarization process. Before meeting with me (or your chosen notary), be sure to:

✅Know what type of notarization you need. Notaries are not authorized to advise you on this.
✅Make sure the document is complete
✅Bring acceptable identification
✅Ensure that the name on your ID matches the name on your document
✅Have all signers physically present for the notarization
✅Be aware and willing to sign
✅Bring payment

⚖️In short, a declaration of domicile is an affidavit which states the place that one considers to be their permanent or principal residence.

⚖️This is generally the place in which an individual spends most of the year. In Florida, declarations of domicile must be notarized and filed with the clerk of court in the appropriate county for recording.

➡️Why might you need one?
Declarations of domicile are helpful in a variety of situations, including, but not limited to:

🏫School enrollment
👩🏿‍🎓Establishing Florida residency to qualify for in-state tuition rates at state colleges and universities.
📜Estate planning & probate
💰Tax benefits. Florida has no state income tax, estate tax, or inheritance tax.
🏠Qualifying for a Homestead Exemption

I-9 Verification and Authorized Representatives

The Form I-9, issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), verifies the identity and employment eligibility for employees hired in the U.S. The form is to be completed by both the employee and the employer (or authorized representative)

According to the USCIS Handbook for Employers, employers “may designate someone to fill out Forms I-9 for you, such as a personnel officer, foreman, agent, or anyone else acting on your behalf, such as a notary public.”
