As the current Washington state legislature contemplates limiting s*xual abuse survivors' access to justice through SB 6239, it is an important reminder that the decisions made in Olympia directly impact real families and their abilities to hold wrongdoers accountable.

The entire Cochran Douglas team is extremely proud to represent the Pfingst family in their claim against North Thurston Public Schools for the ongoing s*xual abuse their non-verbal son experienced while enrolled in the special needs classroom at Lacey Elementary School.

As Collin said best, "[t]his is bigger than our family. This is about accountability. This is about safety. This is about making sure no other child is overlooked because they can’t use their voice."

The family filed a legal claim against North Thurston Public Schools alleging it failed to protect their non-verbal son from ongoing s*xual assaults by a classmate.

Absolutely devastating, yet completely preventable.

For the past two and half years, our clients watched in agony as their abuser - former Sumner High School Boy’s Basketball Coach Jake Jackson - paraded around their community free without any regard for the life altering harm that he caused so many young boys and their families to suffer.

Yesterday, as a result of eight young mens’ bravery, justice was finally served. Jake Jackson was found guilty by a Pierce County jury on all 19 counts, including three counts of third-degree r**e of a child, three counts of third-degree child molestation, second-degree kidnapping, six counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes, five counts of s*xual exploitation of a minor and first-degree s*xual misconduct with a minor.

WE BELIEVE THE BOYS never rang more true!

Flipping the power dynamic is vital on the road to recovery. Our office is extremely proud to represent two survivors on their journey to ensure this kind of abuse never happens again.

After pleading guilty to child r**e in late 2023, a former Federal Way school teacher is out of prison and in community custody, while his former employer is facing a tort claim that could ultimately cost the district money.

Attorney Loren Cochran recently sat down with Fox 13 Seattle to discuss our recently filed against against Pierce County. The question the jury will ultimately be tasked with answering is: do law enforcement officers have the right to shoot an individual in the back when that individual leaves the scene? Or, from a more philosophical standpoint, do law enforcement officers have the right to serve as the judge, jury, and executioner, without any due process? Please be advised that the video contained in the link contains graphic images not suitable for children.

Pierce County body cameras caught the moment a suspect was shot in the back as he tries to drive away from deputies. The shooting was later ruled justified.
