Through its' Alternative Dispute Resolution Intervention services, New Justice offers Mediation, Arbitration, Youth Court and Process Facilitation as avenues of dispute settle
ment. Due to its contracts with the NYS Unified Court System, New Justice is empowered to intervene in an extensive array of situations and conflicts in any of the region’s Civil, Criminal and Family Courts. New Justice provides specialized Family Court based meditations in Custody Visitation matters, as well as Parent-Child meditations referred through the County ACCESS team. In 2011 New Justice operated the SNUG program which conducted violence interruption mediations to intercept retaliatory shootings. The agency oversees the Onondaga County Youth Court which provides first time offending youth, age 12 to 15, with Community Service options that are determined by their peers.New Justice also provides Lemon Law Arbitration's through the New York State Attorney General’s office and Lawyer-Client Fee Dispute Arbitrations through the local Bar Association. The agency also provides Independent Hearing officers for the Syracuse City School District Superintendent’s Suspension Hearings. The agency Executive Director is a New York State Certified Skills Trainer in Community Mediation, Custody Visitation Mediation, Parent- Child Mediation and Attorney Client Fee Arbitration. Through its Training Services, New Justice provides a wide range of Educational and Training programs for youth and adults. These programs have included Character Educational programs, inter-personal and Pro-social programs for students and staff of all grade level, In-School mediation training as well as School Safety and Comprehensive Conflict Resolution School Programming and Parenting workshops. New Justice currently provides Social-Emotional Learning to at – risk youth through the Pupil Services Programming of the Syracuse City School District. A Life- Coach works at the Sidney Johnson Center to support the students in their decision making as to life and career choices. New Justice has provided Pro-Social skills to At- Risk youth in collaboration with the Onondaga County Probation Department for 18 years. New Justice Services works with 12 – 16 year olds who are under PINS or in PINS Diversion through Project RESPECT and with 17 – 21 year old Youthful Offenders who at risk of gang-like activity through Project RESTORE. The RESTORE project includes case management supports and is a pre-employment and educational opportunity readiness program based upon the Bridges out of Poverty material. New Justice Services has been funded by the Unified Court System of the State of New York since its inception in 1981. Since 1984 New Justice has offered Skills Training Programs throughout Central New York to schools, government and private citizens. Currently New Justice receives funding from the Unified Court System of the State of New York, the Syracuse City School District, and the Onondaga County Department of Social Services. New Justice currently has 12 employees; provides services in Onondaga, Oswego and Cortland Counties and its operating budget for 2015 is $677,850.
