A Knoxville native, Annie made the move to the mountains with her husband, Jordan Couch—a Sylva native and fellow attorney at our firm—after spending the past three years practicing law in Nashville, Tennessee.

Annie has provided counsel across a broad spectrum, ranging from closely held family companies to large publicly traded corporations. Ridenour & Goss PA is seeking an organized and detail-oriented person to fill the position of Bookkeeper/Office Manager. Our general litigation and real estate law firm is located in Sylva, North Carolina. Our attorneys handle a wide range of civil lawsuits including boundary line and right of way disputes, breach of contract matters, eminent domain/condemnation proceedings, and will caveats. Our firm also conducts residential and commercial real estate closings and represents local government bodies in addition to advising clients with small business and estate planning and administration needs.

The Bookkeeper/Office Manager will be responsible for the financial operations of the firm and direct management of all accounting, client billing, and payroll functions. The ideal candidate for this position has prior law firm bookkeeping experience and knowledge of trust accounting principles.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform all bookkeeping functions.
- Manage all aspects of the general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Prepare monthly statements for client billing and apply payments to client accounts.
- Pay vendor bills and manage accounts payable.
- Perform bank reconciliation and prepare financial statements.
- Process payroll and support management in the administration of benefits for all employees.
- Assist in the procurement of office-related supplies, furniture and equipment.
- Provide additional administrative support for the Firm’s partners as needed.

Qualifications
- Training or experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and competencies required to perform the duties at this level.
- Law firm or other professional service firm experience preferred.
- 3+ years bookkeeping/accounting experience required.
- Background and credit check required.

Skills
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent skills with QuickBooks or QuickBooks Online, Word and Excel.
- Able to prioritize deadlines and multitask in fast-paced and dynamic workplace.
- Able to take direction and work independently with little or no supervision.

On December 9, 2019, the North Carolina Department of Transportation held a public informational meeting to provide additional updates and public outreach regarding the N.C. 107 improvements. Design for the 107 project is now more than 65% complete and the permanent utility easements are shown on the latest maps released to the public. Right of way acquisition is scheduled to begin in 2020, and construction let is planned to being in 2022. The Department currently estimates the project to cost approximately $74 million.

On July 23, 2019, at a joint meeting of local government entities, the NC Department of Transportation provided additional information regarding its plans for improvements to Highway 107 in Sylva. DOT currently estimates 5 residences, 39 businesses, and 30 signs will be relocated as part of the 107 project at an estimated cost of $49,715,684. The number of impacted properties could increase once the location of utilities along the 107 corridor is determined. Currently, the Department expects to begin right of way acquisition in early 2020 with construction to begin in 2021.

Congratulations to Eric Ridenour for being presented with the 30th Judicial District Bar’s Pro Bono Award.

Jenica Hughes (second from right) and Delia Ledesma (right), attorneys in our Sylva office, presented the 30th Judicial District Bar NC Pro Bono Award to Eric Ridenour at the bar's holiday party Dec. 4. Eric, an attorney with Ridenour & Goss, PA in Sylva, volunteered more than 30 hours on a single housing case for one of our clients. Thanks to Eric's tenacious dedication, our client saved her house from the fraudster who had hoodwinked her into deeding the property to him. Way to go, Eric!
