Charles Towne Landing is an important historic site where English settlers established the first permanent European settlement in South Carolina in 1670. Today, the 664-acre property is a destination for visitors, combining history, nature, wildlife, and beautiful Lowcountry scenery along the Ashley River. Bring your camera and linger beneath sweeping live oaks that have stood for centuries, explore 80 acres of gardens, check out the historic settlement site, and climb aboard the Adventure, a replica of a 17th century ship. Children will delight in the trail through the animal forest, a 22-acre natural-habitat zoo. And joggers and bikers will appreciate the park’s seven miles of paved and unpaved trails.

The site is home to the historic Legare-Waring House, a plantation home built in 1840. Known for its classic architecture and Avenue of the Oaks, today it’s used as an event venue, popular for weddings and as a public gathering space.

A visit to Charles Towne offers a unique perspective of the West Ashley corridor. Explore the surrounding area to discover green spaces, water access, and outdoor recreation. Discover the lifestyle, character, and sense of place that has a distinctive vibe, different from nearby Charleston.

If you are thinking of relocating to the region, connect with us. Johnson & Wilson agents live and work here; we are woven into the community. We’re here to help you find the perfect fit for your family’s needs, priorities, and dreams.

Join us in congratulating Cyndi McLaughlin, our Agent of the Month for September. Cyndi is taking home dual awards this month! She has also been honored with the Boutique Service Award for consistently going above and beyond for her clients.

McLaughlin is known for her warmth, dedication, and market expertise. Her client-focused approach ensures that every step, from the initial search to the final signature, is seamless, personalized, and deeply rewarding. Beyond real estate, Cyndi serves as a Dance Pastor. Through dance, she delivers messages of hope, healing, and unity, building meaningful connections with people in much the same way she does with her real estate clients.

“Cyndi’s unique blend of real estate expertise and ministry-driven passion aligns perfectly with our mission to serve our clients and our community with integrity and care,” noted a Johnson & Wilson teammate.

Thank you, Cyndi, for representing Johnson & Wilson’s commitment to service and core values so well.

The J&W Gold Institute has launched the Historic Home Specialist™ designation, the nation’s first professional distinction created specifically for real estate professionals who work with historic properties. The inaugural class has completed advanced training in preservation, valuation, regulations, tax incentives, architecture, restoration, and specialized marketing. Developed in Charleston, the program is expected to expand into other historic markets around the country.

Honoring our past while leaping forward with innovation and tailored market solutions - that’s Johnson & Wilson.

A lot of people know Johnson & Wilson as a real estate company.

But real estate brokerage has never been the only thing we do.

Our work has grown into development, investment analysis, construction, entitlement, title, capital stack strategy and community development.

Becoming a certified Community Development Entity is another step in that evolution.

We aren't leaving traditional real estate. We're going deeper into what makes real estate projects actually happen.

Stoll’s Alley is one of South of Broad’s sweetest hidden gems. It runs between Church Street and East Bay, tucked away discreetly in one of Charleston’s most historic residential neighborhoods and easily missed by visitors. The alley dates to the 18th century and was originally known as Pilot’s Alley. Back then, harbor pilots would use the passage as a quick route to get to the waterfront and their boats.

Begin your journey at Church Street, where a cobblestone walkway welcomes you into the space. As you stroll through the gradually narrowing alley, look for old brick and stucco walls, historic homes, brick paving, old doorways, gardens, and an array of architectural details. Iconic wrought-iron gates dot the path, many of which were created by renowned Charleston blacksmith, Philip Simmons.

Photographers will want to linger in the dreamy variety of textures and artistic angles. Historians can imagine life behind the scenes during Charleston’s earlier years, when the passage was used by merchants and residents to gain access to the grander areas of the city. Toward East Bay Street the walkway becomes just five feet wide, and at the end it opens up on the right to a stunning view of the grand homes along the Battery. Stoll’s Alley is a connection that leads to a well-known attraction in downtown Charleston—the Battery promenade—with the Cooper River and harbor on one side and historic mansions on the other.

At Johnson & Wilson we’re here to encourage you to discover Charleston as a neighborhood, not just as a tourist destination. Explore the little places between the city’s streets. You’ll soon be surrounded by a kaleidoscope of sights that show off Charleston’s unique personality! Our team is made up of local experts who would love to show you all that Charleston has to offer. Reach out to learn more!
