Today is National First-Generation Lawyer Day (didn’t even know it was a thing until I saw it posted on the American Bar Association page.) I’m deeply humbled when I reflect on my journey as a first-generation lawyer.
My dad worked in a factory. We didn’t have money for college. God opened doors I never could have opened on my own (and I’m just as grateful for the closed doors).
I was valedictorian of my high school, received a full-tuition academic merit scholarship to SMU for undergrad, and later attended UT Law. Looking back, I truly see God’s hand in every step of my journey.
I’ve always believed that to whom much is given, much is expected. That belief shapes how I live, how I practice law, and how I try to serve others every day. 🙏🏼
