What legal remedies do the victims and families of school shootings have in America? A complex web of immunities and federal and state laws shield police, school districts, and gun manufacturers from lawsuits.
After the most recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, attorneys and advocates for gun legislation are urging congress to revisit the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (2005) which provides near blanket immunity to gun manufacturers and dealers from civil lawsuits if their weapons are used in the commission of a crime.
