Mr. Gufford has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1991, (27 years). He enjoys a staff of legal assistants and paralegals whom have decades of experience under their belt as well. The Gufford Law Firm have been providing exceptional client service that focuses on results to people in South Florida's Treasure Coast region. We offer tailored legal representation to suit the specifics of your individual case. Our experience and commitment to excellence make the difference. The attorneys and staff at our firm offer their extensive knowledge and understanding of the law, combined with dogged determination to achieve our client’s desired outcome whether that be in or out of the Courtroom. All of our paralegals/legal assistants have extensive experience in assisting Mr. Gufford in trials. They are dedicated legal professionals whom have been recognized by not only our clients but also Judges, Magistrates and their Judicial Assistants. Along with Mr. Gufford, our team makes sure that our clients are kept informed of what is going on with any given matter. Mr. Gufford and many of our staff provide their cell numbers to clients in case there are any after hour emergencies that arise. At The Gufford Law Firm, we have been very fortunate to have received a 10.0 rating and there are over 74 client reviews that you can check out. That web link is at https://www.avvo.com/attorneys/34994-fl-joseph-gufford-1278904.html . In looking at the reviews, you can tell that they are written by real people whom have been through real cases. You can also see a very few number of negative reviews which in our opinion is a source of validity. You simply can’t please everybody in the family law business. At the time of this posting, 94% (one 4 star review which I think was an error by my client who thought that 4 stars was the absolutely highest she could give. A whopping 93% are five stars. I urge potential clients to read the reviews because contained within many of them they tell a short story of trial and tribulation. Many of the reviews also compliment the hard work of our staff.
If you haven't figured it out by now, we believe very strongly in TEAMWORK. The lawyer, the paralegals/legal assistants and the CLIENT all work together to produce the best outcome. When we have heavy duty trials or evidentiary hearings the assigned paralegal/legal assistant will be in the Courtroom sitting right next to Mr. Gufford and the Client at Counsel Table. The fact that our team is all experienced in the Courtroom is very important as we all gain knowledge of the Judge’s, Clerk’s and Judicial Assistants. It breeds a very special level of responsibility in our staff because they do not want the Client to be disappointed with the outcome of the case. In our practice, there are always at least two (2) set of eyes looking at everything that comes in or goes out of the office.
We pledge to deliver legal services customized for each and every one of our clients.
Lead by attorney Joseph Gufford, our firm is focused on providing individualized services to clients in a range of issues. Possessing an extensive history in law and business, attorney Joseph Gufford III currently serves clients from The Gufford Law Firm in Martin County, Florida. The former Chairman of the Martin County Bar Association's Family Law Committee, Gufford concentrates on family law and its subsections including divorce, child custody, guardianship law, visitation rights, paternity, prenuptial agreements, child support enforcement actions and spousal support. Family Law practice is very document intensive and requires a close examination of each party's assets and income. Joe Gufford has an extensive staff of experienced paralegals that give him the ability to maximize his efforts on behalf of each and every client. In many cases, the opposing party will intentionally hide assets or attempt to reduce their income to lessen their exposure to child support, alimony and equitable distribution. Thus, having an experienced staff to sift through bank statements, Financial Affidavits and Tax Returns is essential. Additionally, in some cases, it is necessary to have the right experts to consult with in order to achieve the client's goals. Whether it is a custody evaluator, a forensic accountant or a vocational assessment expert, knowing the right experts to call upon if often the key to success in complicated matters.
The firm concentrates its efforts in the area of Family Law. However, in order to be a good family law attorney, you must also be a good “generalist” and have knowledge and experience in other areas of the law whether it be civil litigation, probate, labor law, real property law, landlord/tenant disputes, business organizations, guardianships and estate and probate law.
Before starting his professional life as a lawyer, Joseph Gufford attended the University of Florida and majored in Political Science and History. During this period, Gufford acquired a commission as a Second Lieutenant after graduating from the U.S. Army Airborne School. Subsequently, he enrolled at Stetson University College of Law and commenced his career as a Clerk with Justin C. Johnston and Associates PA. In his first trial, he was successful at assisting his client in obtaining a multi-million dollar judgment against a manufacturer of a defective heater.
Following the receipt of his Juris Doctor, Joe Gufford became an Associate Litigation Attorney with O'Brien & Hooper, PA. At the personal injury firm, he litigated against Cellular One in one of the nation's first AIDS discrimination suits. Later positions at Barber & Gufford; Gufford & Lawrence, Attorneys at Law; Grazi & Gianino, Attorneys at Law; and Brandt & Gufford, Attorneys at Law, enabled him to represent clients in civil suits, family law, and business litigation.
The holder of a “Superb” rating from Avvo.com, Gufford has written and presented on legal issues, such as changes to Florida statutes that affect custody and equitable distribution. Covered by the Martin County Bar Association (MCBA) for his pro bono work, Gufford has also obtained Pro Bono Service Awards from MCBA and Florida Rural Legal Services on multiple occasions. Pro Bono work is important to Joe Gufford and he does as much of it as possible. All Pro Bono cases that Mr. Gufford handles are referred to him through Florida Rural Legal Services.

State Laws Vary
GLF lawyers are licensed to practice law only within the State of Florida but we affiliate or form relationships with lawyers throughout the United States. GLF may refer prospective clients to other law firms located throughout the country, who form relationships with GLF, and are experienced in handling such cases. GLF may also undertake legal representation in certain cases, and will affiliate with other legal counsel located throughout the country to provide legal representation. The laws of each State are different. This web site contains information about general or common rules that apply in some states. This web site also contains information about verdicts or settlements in past cases. You cannot assume that the same rules apply, or that the same result would occur, in your state or any particular state. The Statute of Limitations is especially important. Every state has laws called the “statute of limitations” which set a deadline to file a lawsuit. That means that a lawsuit filed too late may be thrown out, regardless of the defendant’s fault or the severity of the injuries, some states have a two-year period for negligence injury claims; the time period in other states may be longer or shorter. Insurance policies, particularly homeowners insurance, may require that suit be filed within one year of a loss. Some states allow claims against government agencies, but require a written notice very soon after the accident, perhaps within three months. Because investigation and research is needed to identify all possible defendants and theories of recovery, if you have an accident or injury, you should consult a lawyer as soon as possible.
Legal and Ethical Requirements
GLF has tried to comply with all legal and ethical requirements in compiling this web site. We welcome comments about our compliance with the applicable rules and will update the site as warranted, upon learning of any new or different requirements. We only want to represent clients based on their review of this web site, if it complies with all legal or ethical requirements.
