📋 Did you know Virginia has two types of notary commissions?

Whether you’re just starting out or leveling up, here’s what every Virginia notary should know: a Traditional Notary Public handles in-person, pen-and-paper notarizations, while an Electronic Notary Public ✍️💻 has the same authority but performs notarizations electronically.

One catch — you must hold a traditional commission before you can become an eNotary.

✅ Want to go electronic? Step 1 is always getting your traditional commission first.

Start traditional. Go electronic. Stay informed. 📌 That’s the VAN way.

For realtor notaries, paralegal notaries, and admin professionals looking to add income: learn how apostille and authentication services work, state vs. federal paths, and how a courier partnership lets you keep the client while the courier handles the paperwork. 📄💰

As a Virginia notary, your role carries legal weight beyond a signature. Three core responsibilities define that duty:

Verifying identity — confirming that the person before you is who they claim to be.Witnessing oaths, testimony, and legal document signings Attesting that proper formalities were followed

Every notarial act affects the legal rights of others. Failure to perform these duties carefully can result in personal liability for damages.

Know your role. Protect your stamp.
