My approach to family law is simple:

Be prepared. Be strategic. Be realistic.

Some cases can be resolved cooperatively. Others require aggressive litigation. Part of my job is knowing the difference — and helping clients navigate both.

I believe clients deserve:
• Honest answers
• Clear communication
• Strong advocacy
• Realistic expectations
• An attorney who is prepared for court when necessary

Family law cases affect every part of a person’s life — their children, finances, future, and peace of mind.

That’s why I approach every case with both compassion and preparation.

No two families are the same. No two cases are the same. But every client deserves to feel informed, supported, and protected throughout the process.

If you’re facing a divorce or custody issue, let’s talk about your situation and your options.

Every family law case is unique — but one thing many people don’t realize is how important local court experience can be.

Different courts operate differently. Judges often have different expectations, priorities, and approaches to family law matters.

Understanding those nuances can help clients:
• Set realistic expectations
• Prepare more effectively
• Avoid unnecessary conflict
• Make stronger strategic decisions

Family law is not one-size-fits-all.

That’s why experience in the specific courts where your case is being heard can make a meaningful difference throughout the process.

My approach is always to give clients honest guidance, practical perspective, and strong advocacy — while helping them understand the bigger picture of their case.

Knowledge matters. Preparation matters. And so does perspective.

Not every divorce or custody case goes to trial — but every family law attorney should be prepared as if it could.

Why?

Because the ability to litigate matters.

An attorney who understands courtroom procedure, how judges approach cases, and how to effectively present a client’s position brings an entirely different level of preparation to negotiations and settlement discussions.

In many cases, realistic outcomes are shaped long before trial ever begins.

That’s why it’s important to work with an attorney who not only understands family law — but understands the local courts, the judges, and the practical realities of how these cases are decided.

Good legal advice isn’t about telling clients only what they want to hear. It’s about helping them understand what to realistically expect and how to make informed decisions moving forward.

Preparation matters. Experience matters. Strategy matters.

Family law cases are deeply personal.

Behind every divorce or custody dispute, there’s a family trying to figure out what life looks like next. Emotions run high. Fear, frustration, and uncertainty are common — especially when children are involved.

One of the biggest misconceptions people have is that family law is about “winning” at all costs. In reality, these cases are rarely a zero-sum game.

The goal should be to protect your future while also understanding the long-term impact decisions can have on your family, your finances, and your children.

That doesn’t mean avoiding conflict when conflict is necessary. It means approaching your case strategically, realistically, and with a clear understanding of what matters most.

As a family law attorney, my role is not only to advocate for my clients — it’s to help them navigate difficult decisions with clarity and preparation.

If you’re facing a divorce or custody matter, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Negotiation & Mediation — Avoiding Trial

Will I have to go to court?

In many cases — no.

A large number of divorce and custody cases are resolved through negotiation or mediation, rather than going to trial.

This process allows both sides to:
• Discuss solutions outside of the courtroom
• Maintain more control over the outcome
• Reduce time, stress, and cost
• Create more flexible, personalized agreements

For families — especially those with children — this can be a more constructive path forward.

That said, not every case can (or should) be settled. Having an attorney who is prepared for both negotiation and litigation is key.

Information Gathering — What You’ll Need

“What documents do I need for my divorce or custody case?”

This is a question almost everyone asks — and for good reason.

Once a case begins, both sides are required to exchange information. This step is called discovery, and it’s all about transparency.

You may be asked to provide:
• Income information (pay stubs, tax returns)
• Bank and retirement account statements
• Property and debt details
• Work schedules and childcare arrangements

It can feel overwhelming — especially if you’re already dealing with emotional stress.

But this step is critical. Having complete and accurate information helps ensure fair outcomes when it comes to support, custody, and property division.

The good news? You don’t have to organize it all alone.

Temporary Orders — What Happens Right Away?

What happens immediately after a divorce or custody case is filed?

This is one of the biggest sources of anxiety — especially when children, finances, and living arrangements are involved.

In many cases, the court will enter temporary orders early in the process. These are short-term decisions that create stability while your case is ongoing.

They may address:
• Parenting time (who the children are with and when)
• Child support or spousal support
• Who stays in the marital home
• Payment of bills and expenses

These orders are not permanent — but they can shape what your day-to-day life looks like for months.

That’s why it’s so important to approach this stage thoughtfully and with the right guidance.

You don’t have to guess your way through this.

What to Expect in a Divorce or Custody Case

If you’re thinking about divorce or dealing with a custody issue, you’re probably feeling overwhelmed — and unsure of what comes next.

You’re not alone. One of the most common questions I hear is: “What does the process actually look like?”

Here’s a simple breakdown:
• Step 1: Filing – One party files a complaint to start the case• Step 2: Temporary Orders – The court may set short-term rules for parenting time, support, or living arrangements• Step 3: Information Gathering – Both sides exchange financial and other important information• Step 4: Negotiation or Mediation – Many cases resolve here without trial• Step 5: Trial (if needed) – If no agreement is reached, a judge makes the final decisions

Every case is different — but having a clear understanding of the process can make it feel far less intimidating.

This is the first post in a series where I’ll walk you through family law topics step by step, so you can feel informed and prepared.

You don’t have to navigate this alone.
