The Staten Island Advance recently published my op-ed on Mayor Adams and the next NYPD Police Commissioner. Since that time, the mayor himself has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury and is facing mounting pressure to resign.

As distrust in our city’s government continues to grow, I hope the mayor heeds my advice (and the advice of many others) and selects someone to lead the NYPD from outside his inner circle. Doing anything other could destroy whatever goodwill, if any, he has left with his constituents.

And while he should be afforded the same due process rights as any defendant, it wouldn’t be a bad idea if he stepped down too…
