Alerta fiscal: ¿Le cobró de más el IRS durante la pandemia?

Un fallo judicial histórico (Kwong contra Estados Unidos) significa que decenas de millones de contribuyentes pueden recuperar su dinero. El IRS debe devolver las multas e intereses por presentación o pago tardío de declaraciones de impuestos entre enero de 2020 y julio de 2023, ya que los plazos por la pandemia debieron haberse suspendido.

Pero hay un detalle: el IRS NO enviará este reembolso automáticamente. Debe tomar medidas para reclamar su dinero.

FECHA LÍMITE: 10 de julio de 2026
Si pagó multas o intereses sobre sus impuestos de 2019 a 2022, siga estos pasos de inmediato para proteger sus derechos:

Revise sus transcripciones: Inicie sesión en su cuenta oficial del IRS en línea. Revise las transcripciones de su cuenta de 2019 a 2022 para ver si pagó multas o intereses por mora.

Presente el Formulario 843: Descargue el Formulario 843 del IRS ("Solicitud de reembolso y reducción") de IRS.gov. aqui esta la forma: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f843.pdf

Escriba las palabras clave
Debe escribir claramente en el formulario: «Reclamación de reembolso preventiva conforme al caso Kwong».

Envíelo por correo certificado: Envíelo al centro de servicio del IRS donde presentó su declaración original. Utilice correo certificado para tener constancia de que llegó antes de la fecha límite.

But there is a catch: The IRS will NOT send this refund automatically. You must take action to claim your money.

HARD DEADLINE: July 10, 2026
If you paid penalties or interest on your 2019–2022 taxes, follow these exact steps right away to protect your rights:

Check Your Transcripts: Log into your official IRS Online Account. Review your 2019 through 2022 account transcripts to see if you paid late fees or interest.

File Form 843: Download IRS Form 843 ("Claim for Refund and Request for Abatement") from IRS.gov.
Get the form here: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f843.pdf

Write the Magic Words
You must write "Protective Refund Claim Pursuant to Kwong Case" clearly on the form.

Send It Certified Mail: Mail it to the IRS service center where you filed your original return. Use certified mail so you have proof it arrived before the deadline.
