As I lay here in bed, listening to the last sounds of the celebration of our nation's independence, and what it means to be an American, I can't help but think of all the headlines recently elevating the status of those who I will call "Ungrateful Americans."
Born in a land of opportunity, literally they show nothing but contempt for the United States in its totality. Kneeling during the national anthem, a false narrative toward the flag, and divisive nature placing self above all others, while veiled in an unjustifiable cause is the force majeure elevating these miscreants to status of idol among the ill-informed. It is disheartening to see young, impressionable people cast their lot with these pied pipers, when instead, they miss the one true Shepherd.
I have watched when people of humility and sensibility ignore a conversation involving controversy, hoping that common sense prevails. It does not, because the lesson is never taught. The context could be so outrageous, so egregious as to evoke a gasp, and yet not a word or utterance is given to rebuke the offence. Freedom of religion and freedom of expression have now become FROM both. I have heard on more than one occasion, directly from the mouths of strangers and colleagues alike, that they are "embarrassed to be called American." My heart aches that entire generations have turned away from the principles that built this nation, under God, to be indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all.
In spite of it all, I engage in conversations, express and defend my beliefs with facts, and will never allow a person to speak defiantly towards my country unchecked. I will not be called a racist, a bigot, a fascist, or a "believer in an imaginary sky daddy" without an immediate response of overwhelming conviction. My God, my family, and my country are what drive me to excel, striving each day to be better so that each of them will look upon my deeds and see the true nature of me as a man.
Reignite that American dream within you. Never let someone tell you that your existence is the result of an action from someone far removed. Take back your freedom and engage in opportunities to bring a spotlight upon conversations that are foul, and not suited for even the darkest of places. Hold high your morals, cherish your love for God and your family values, and let no person ever prevent you from following the path you know to be true and correct. Open your ears, but do not shut your mouth.
It is time for the silent majority to become vocal, and to stand tall and proud.
