As the years go by, Christmas has a way of reminding us just how quickly time moves.

Each season seems to arrive a little faster than the last, and with it comes the quiet realization that the things we once rushed past are often the things that matter most—family, connection, memories, and the people who walk beside us through life.

This time of year invites us to slow down, take stock, and hold a little tighter to what truly counts. Not the noise. Not the deadlines. But the moments, the laughter, the shared stories, and the legacy we’re building every day—often without even realizing it.

From all of us at Ellis Law Office, we wish you a peaceful Christmas, time well spent with those you love, and a season filled with meaning.

Hey parents! Did you know that as soon as your kids turn 18 that we lose the ability to help them without their permission? Financial and health care matters are suddenly private, and we are shut out if we don’t have our kids’ permission.

Further, did you know that if something happened, important health care decisions could be delayed without having the right plan in place? Imagine having to navigate emergency guardianship proceedings in court during a medical emergency! The same goes for financial matters … navigating banking, credit, even academic matters get increasingly complicated once we become legal strangers with our kids on their 18th birthday.

If you’re approaching (or past) this point, click to read on. We’re here to help with financial and health care powers that ensure important decisions aren’t delayed in an emergency … or even urgent situations when your kids may be away in the military, college, vocational training, or on the job.

Call or go online to schedule with your young adult: (913) 592-2029 or ellislawks.com.

New Year but same plan?
Here are five considerations as to why year-end is the perfect time to review your estate plan.

1. Does your plan reflects major life changes (marriage, divorce, health, death of a partner, retirement, moves out of state)?

2. Does your plan account for shifts in financial status (retirement, loss of income, increase in income)?

3. Is your plan staying current with evolving tax laws (most of our plans do, but when did you last review your plan with an estate planning professional?)

4. When did you last review key appointments like successor trustees, executors, healthcare agents, financial agents, or guardians (does your plan still appoint guardians for your now adult children? Are your personal agents still an active part of your liife?)

5. The peace of mind that comes from knowing that your plan is not only legally up to date, but that it also reflects your vision, values, and goals for your family.

Ready to update? Schedule a consultation today! Call ((913) 592-2029) or visit us online ( www.ellislawks.com ) to schedule your plan review.

Don't have a plan? Schedule your consultation today.
Appointments available at both our Leawood and Spring Hill offices.

This past Thursday, May 15th, Ellis Law Office was honored to sponsor two teams in the Tee Up for Tails Golf Tournament, benefiting Always and Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary in Spring Hill. It was a beautiful day spent supporting a truly beautiful mission.

What began as a sanctuary for older, sick, and abandoned dogs has grown into something even more extraordinary—now welcoming animals of all ages and types, from dogs and cats to other furry friends in need. Despite their continued growth, they still haven’t caught up to the size of the hearts behind the mission—the tireless volunteers and the visionary founder who make it all possible.
But this no-kill shelter’s needs extend beyond just one day a year. To learn more about Always and Furever, or to learn about adopting or fostering your new best friend, please visit them at https://www.alwaysandfurever.org/.

To support their mission, consider a donation of any size by visiting https://www.alwaysandfurever.org/donate/.
To read about how an old soul can benefit a soul of any age, check out our latest post on adopting an older pet. And if you’re a current pet owner, read up on how a pet trust within your living revocable trust and accommodations in your financial power of attorney can help to ensure your furry (or reptilian) companion is taken care of in moments when you’re not available.

We were thrilled to host the following friends* at Thursday’s tournament:
• Craig Holzen, CEPA®, AAMS™, Financial Advisor- Edward Jones, Louisburg (913.578.3098)
• Jake Hill, AAMS™, Associate Financial Advisor-Edward Jones, Louisburg (913.578.3098)
• Sheldon Booe, Investment Officer - First Option Bank Financial Services, Overland Park (913.353.9110)
• The Hon. Adam Thomas, Kansas State Senator, 23rd District
• Preston Emperly, SEATS, Inc.
• Scott Heyka, Farm Bureau Finacial Services (913.226.9616)
Representing our two teams were Justin Ellis, Partnership Development and Community Engagement Manager at Ellis Law Office, and Nick Hutchins, a professional airline pilot and longtime friend of the firm.

*Participant names and affiliations are shared to recognize and express our appreciation for the individuals and the outstanding organizations they represent. While Ellis Law Office, LLC is proud to support and endorse these organizations, participation with us does not constitute their endorsement of Ellis Law Office, LLC.*
