🚨ATTENTION BUSINESS OWNERS USING QUICKBOOKS PAYROLL🚨
If you used QuickBooks Payroll in 2025 or anytime in 2026, please log into your state withholding tax portal and CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT!
We are seeing clients receive tax lien notices for unpaid state withholding taxes, even though they were under the impression that QuickBooks Payroll was handling these payments.
In some cases, the state withholding funds were withdrawn, but the state is showing that the payment was never received, resulting in penalties and interest being added.
In other cases, the business signed up for QuickBooks to handle state withholding taxes, and QuickBooks was taking out and paying federal and state unemployment taxes, but the actual state employee withholding taxes were not being paid. Even though the business signed up for this service, for some reason that portion of the payroll taxes was not handled.
If you have W-2 employees and use QuickBooks Payroll, DO NOT assume everything was paid just because taxes were coming out of your account.
***Log into your state withholding portal and verify that your payments were actually received and applied.
If you need assistance reviewing your account, payroll records, or a tax notice you received, Gold Star Financial is available to assist for a consultation fee.
