This August has been full of milestones! I’m lucky enough to have two very special partners to celebrate: my husband, with whom I just marked 11 years of marriage and 17 years together, and my law partner, Tim Butler, who not only just celebrated a milestone birthday but is also part of another anniversary for me--today marks 13-years for me at Butler Tibbetts. Tim has been one of the greatest mentors and friends I could ask for, and I’m so grateful to work alongside him.

I’m proud to work in a place that challenges and fulfills me: helping healthcare providers get paid for the vital, life-saving services they provide, and guiding people through one of life’s most difficult chapters—divorce—with the goal of making it as smooth and painless as possible so they can move forward to their next chapter.

I’m thankful for the work, the people, and the purpose I’ve found here. This is where I’ll continue to grow my career… and no matter what, the best part will always be puppy snuggles from Mocha. 🐾

💡 Only 1 week left for early-bird pricing!

As Chair of the Planning Committee for the 2025 American Bar Association, Section of Dispute Resolution's Advanced Mediation & Advocacy Skills Institute, I’m beyond excited to invite you to join us virtually on October 22–23 for an event that’s truly next-level.

This year’s program brings together world-class voices in leadership, diplomacy, and conflict resolution—Ambassador Dennis Ross and Lori Lightfoot—alongside an outstanding lineup of ADR, communication, and negotiation experts.

We’ve expanded last year’s highly successful multi-track CLE offerings—now with more opportunities to tailor your experience. Select from multiple family law–focused plenaries in addition to a robust lineup of commercial, business, and employment–focused plenaries. And of course, you’ll get full on-demand access to every session afterward.

From inspiring keynotes to hands-on skill-building, this is an Institute you won’t want to miss.

⏳ Early bird pricing ends August 15—secure your spot now and save!

Today, marks the final American Bar Association, Section of Dispute Resolution Mediation Committee where Steven Bierman and I will serve as co-chairs before our term expires at the Annual Meeting next week.

We thought it appropriate to have our last meeting be an introduction of the incoming co-chairs, Felicia Harris Hoss, FCIArb, Lisa W. Timmons, Esq., and Jeremy Vermilyea as well as to have the meeting serve as one of my favorite types of meetings we’ve held these past two years, an open forum/open mic meeting to chat and connect with the other mediation committee members.

These past two years, we have had the opportunity to have some amazing speakers at our meetings, but the most rewarding aspect of the co-chair role has been the connections and friendships that have come from the committee. The DR Section is an incredibly welcoming and rewarding community filled with impressive, inspiring, and kind colleagues who I continually learn from and are pace cars to motivate me to strive to improve and grow in my practice, my profession, and my person.

I will miss the regular planning meetings with Steve, Gabrielle Hartley (who stayed on an extra year last bar year to serve as co-chair), and Felicia (who served as vice-chair for our two years). I consider all three of these impressive professionals dear friends.

I also want to thank Doug Mintz for recommending me for the role and for Ana Sambold, Esq. and Susan Guthrie for each appointing me during their respective bar years as chair of the Section.

I would be remiss if I did not use this post to promote the 2025 Advanced Mediation & Advocacy Skills Institute, which I am honored to be Chair of the planning committee for this year. Another post with more details to follow, but for now, here is the registration link and agenda, sign-up now before early bird pricing ends: https://lnkd.in/eSKmJcVd

I will end this post how I ended many posts promoting Mediation Committee meetings (and right now, this message is more important than ever), if you aren’t already a member of the ABA and the section, now is the perfect time to join!

About halfway through the 2nd day of the ABS Dispute Resolution Section's annual conference looking forward to Debra Hamilton and Karis Nafte's panel on pet related conflicts.

I remember when I was in law school there was no such thing as pet custody as they were considered property and now on NY State judges need to take into consideration the best interest of the pet!

After that, I'll be hosting the mediation committee meet and greet meet-up in the Farrand Boardroom for those who are here in person at the Convene which is an amazing meeting space.

Am I surprised that Chair Susan Guthrie, the amazing ABA staff, and the excellent conference committee put on such an amazing conference? Not at all, but they all deserve a huge round of applause!

✨Mediation Mondays✨

Experience the convenience of mediation—whether in-person or virtual, this process offers flexibility to suit your needs. 🌐💼 Mediation adapts to your schedule, providing a versatile and accessible platform for divorcing couples.

❓What is Divorce Mediation?

Divorce mediation is a private and voluntary process where a neutral mediator helps couples, with or without attorneys, craft agreeable solutions for their divorce. 🤝 Guided by an impartial facilitator, couples discuss child custody, asset division, and more in a cooperative environment. 💼 Unlike court battles, mediation encourages open communication, flexibility, and active involvement, fostering a less formal and more amicable resolution. 🌐 Whether in-person or virtual, this collaborative approach empowers couples to make their own decisions, promoting a smoother and cost-effective divorce journey. 💔✨

💬 Share your mediation experiences! How has the flexibility of in-person or virtual mediation impacted your divorce process? Drop your insights in the comments below.👇
