Taxpayers may get a surprise 1099 this year if they have conducted business or sold anything on a payment app or an online marketplace, like sporting tickets, concert tickets, etc., regardless of whether you made a profit or not. Be sure and report all 1099s on your tax return or the IRS may send you a letter proposing to increase your tax and assessing a penalty for the year. https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/news/nta-blog/is-this-the-year-you-finally-get-a-form-1099-k/2025/2/

If you get a letter from the IRS because you did not report a 1099 on your tax return, call our office and we can help you through this process.

This filing season, many taxpayers will — for the first time ever — receive a Form 1099-K for the sale of goods or services.
