TARRANT COUNTY JUDGE SPOTLIGHT: Honorable Sergio De Leon
Get to know Judge Sergio De Leon, serving Tarrant County Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 since 2012! Originally from Fort Worth and inspired by public service early on, Judge De Leon shares insights into his background, career, and commitment to the community.
ROOTS & INSPIRATION: Born right here in Fort Worth, Judge De Leon spent time growing up in Arkansas before a childhood book on President JFK ignited his passion for public service. This spark eventually led him to work on the presidential campaign of then-Governor Clinton before launching his own successful career serving Tarrant County.
FAMILY FIRST: He and his wife Frances are approaching their 25th wedding anniversary and share a large, loving family with four children, three grandchildren, and two furry friends: Buddy Max (Beagle) and Penny (Golden Doddle). They love everything about Fort Worth, especially its rich heritage, vibrant culture, and diverse population.
FROM CONSTABLE TO THE BENCH: After initial steps into the insurance and brokerage industries, Judge De Leon recognized that his true calling lay elsewhere. He was elected as Tarrant County Constable for Precinct 5, serving with dedication for 12 years before his current position as Justice of the Peace. His time in the private sector reinforced his commitment to ensuring that local government remains helpful and responsive, avoiding the pitfalls of bureaucracy.
SERVING WITH IMPACT: Elected in 2012 and set to serve another term, Judge De Leon has focused on accessibility and community engagement. He is particularly proud of the court’s signature initiative: the Honorary Jurors Program. This student juror program, the only systematic youth engagement program of its kind in Tarrant County, has partnered with over 40 schools and received the Texas Association of Counties’ Best Practices Award for Innovation. Additionally, his office has increased efficiency through the Pre-Trial Mediation Docket and has consistently remained under budget, returning thousands of dollars to the county.
HIS GOAL FOR THE COURTROOM: For Judge De Leon, the most important experience for any citizen interacting with his office or courtroom is to feel heard, respected, and valued. "As the people's court," he says, "we must make sure these standards are upheld to bring about justice and peace."

• Hobbies: Swimming, lifting weights, walking, hunting, and exploring new restaurants in Fort Worth.
• Sports: An eternal optimist, he's cheering on the Dallas Cowboys to the Super Bowl!
