In a 6-3 decision, The Supreme Court of the United States held that Federal Law bars LGBTQ discrimination in the workplace.

Glad to see this was correctly decided! 🏳️‍🌈

Federal civil rights law protects gay, le***an and transgender workers, the Supreme Court ruled Monday.

🎉DIRECTED VERDICT CASE DISMISSED🎉

After a 1 day jury trial, after the closing of the People’s case, criminal defense attorney Sydney Rushing made a motion for directed verdict. A directed verdict is that even with all the evidence the prosecutor has presented viewed in the light most favorable to him, no one would be able to find a person guilty of the crime they are charged with. The Judge granted Ms. Rushing’s motion & the case was dismissed!

Client was charged with Driving While License Suspended causing Serious Injury. A pedestrian walked out in front of my client as she was driving home from work at 1am. Pedestrian was walking across Gratiot, wearing all dark clothing, not in a cross walk. He also had a BAC of .338. It was our argument that client was not the proximate cause of the injury. There were many holes poked in the prosecutors case, and the biggest one was the notice requirement of the statute.

This was the right outcome for this case. It is EXTREMELY tragic. But it was exactly what it was — an accident. This was a long fight, but worth it in the end. Client is happy and expressed how “you better call BAE - Best. Attorney. Ever.”

Beginning May 1, you will be able to take your cell phone into all courthouses. Advice we can offer is to make sure it is on silent mode and/or turned off while you are in the courtroom. There will likely be warnings posted as to what will happen should your phone go off while court is conducting business.

🎉FELONY CASE DISMISSED🎉

Client was charged with one count of Fleeing and Eluding - Third Degree, which is a 5 year felony. Client was also charged with one count of Lying to a Peace officer, which is a 2 year felony in Michigan. Client also had a Habitual 2nd offense notice which makes the maximum penalty 1.5x more than it’s original maximum.

After a preliminary examination this morning, which included a very effective cross-examination of the officers involved in the matter, attorney Sydney Rushing was successful at arguing that the bind over burden had not been met. The People could not meet their burden of probable cause on either charge. Judge Johnson agreed and dismissed the matter. Client is extremely happy and expressed how Sydney is BAE - Best. Attorney. Ever.

Michigan lawmakers moved forward with efforts to make more residents eligible to clear their criminal records this week, approving bills to automatically remove the records of certain crimes and a number of other changes to the state’s expungement process.

🎉FELONY CASE DISMISSED🎉

Client was charged with one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon. In Michigan, this is a felony with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.

After a 1 day preliminary examination, which included an effective cross-examination, attorney Sydney Rushing was able to show that the People could not meet their burden of probable cause to have the case bound over to the circuit court. The people could not establish that our client had knowledge of the weapon under his seat & they could not establish that he had possession of the weapon. Our client remains innocent and will keep a clean record!

🎉 2 GREAT OUTCOMES 🎉

Client #1 was charged with Felon in Possession, CCW, Felony Firearm (2 year flat prison sentence required), Felon in Possession of Ammunition, and DWLS with a Habitual 2nd notice. Attorney Rushing was able to secure a favorable plea to Carrying a Concealed Weapon with all remaining counts to be dismissed. Today, probation recommended a probationary term of 18 months. However, Sydney successfully argued for client to be sentenced to 63 days, with credit for 63 days, and the judge accepted. Case closed!

Client #2 was charged with CCW with a Habitual 4th notice (takes the maximum time to Life). Attorney Rushing was able to secure a favorable plea to Attempt possession of metallic brass knuckles, a 2 yr maximum, with a dismissal of the habitual. Probation was recommending a 2 year term of probation. Sydney was successful in convincing the judge to a short 6 month term of probation. Happy client, happy attorney.
