The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Most folks don't know much about it. Our government has been instrumental in helping many of my clients recoup unlawful charges and fraudulent fees - from banks, mortgage companies, payday lenders and other creditors. Under the current administration, it looks like the CFPB will no longer be able to help consumers. Is government regulation bad? In some cases, probably. In the case of the CFPB, this is the only organization that has the teeth to fight corporate fraud and protect American consumers. If you've ever been overcharged by your bank, utility company, internet/cable provider, mortgage servicer, cellular company or any other creditor, you know what I'm talking about. It's frustrating. But the cop is no longer on the beat. You're on your own now. But I'm just going to keep on fighting that power so if you live in Michigan and if you have been a victim, I'm not giving up.

Credit reporting is about to change. It used to be that having old accounts was positive, whether your have high credit limits or not. Soon, you will be marked negatively for having excessively large credit card limits, on the theory that the person could run up a high credit card debt quickly. "Those who have prime credit scores may be hurt the most, since they are most likely to have multiple cards open."
