Just so all of my clients are aware, the State of Michigan has ceased in-person hearings at the Workers Compensation Agency since the virus started. It is scheduled to re-open next year but I am sure there will be a considerable backlog. I am doing my best to deal with this reality.

Here is an article about changes made in the Michigan workers compensation system to lower protections to injured workers. Perhaps with the new governor, there will be more protection in a system that presently offers almost no social safety net for those who need it most.

Michigan employers are likely to save money on unemployment insurance and worker's compensation under changes signed into law Monday by Gov. Rick Snyder. Critics, though, said the moves could make it more difficult for injured and jobless workers to get the benefits they need.

This is an sample of the false narrative issued from the State of Michigan when it lies to the public by pretending that Workers Compensation is part of a social safety net. The same crew that publishes this statement has destroyed the little economic safety that used to be part of the workers compensation system.https://www.michigan.gov/documents/wca/wca_2016_Annual_Report_556164_7.pdf

This explanation published by another law firm explains why the State of Michigan is not being honest with the public when it pretends that there is decent protection afforded to injured workers in Michigan. http://www.workerscomplawyerhelp.com/blog/2011/11/house-bill-5002-a-real-example-of-virtual-wages/

Periodically, I am called on to explain to people that the workers compensation system has been destroyed in order to line the pockets of the insurers in Michigan. This is an article that attempts to explain what I deal with on a daily basis.

I spend a great deal of time explaining to the public how the Michigan Supreme Court, in its predilection for ruling in favor of giant insurers and business at the expense of the public, destroyed the social safety net previously afforded by the Workers Disability Compensation Act. An example of this is what the Michigan Supreme Court did to the Michigan Consumer Protection Act (MCPA). The MCPA used to protect the public from unfair practices that really was nothing more than improper theft of peoples funds. Check out this article and you will see that I am far from alone in sounding the alarm about the destruction of your individual rights.
