Very informative. When dealing with those charged with a felony, many MS jurisdictions offer Pre-Trial diversion which hinges on an individual's ability to pass drug screens.

With this new information, TWLF will definitely keep a closer eye on positive drug test results.

In New York, legislators are weighing a bill to ban drug and alcohol testing of pregnant mothers without informed consent. It’s part of a nationwide effort to curb what critics say is the outsized role played by drug testing companies in the justice system.

Please join The Washington Law Firm, PLLC in our send-off of Ms. Janiya Walker--our 2021 undergraduate summer intern from Tennessee State University.

She joined the firm on May 26, 2021.

The firm believes in building future attorneys at the earliest stage possible. To be great in this profession, especially criminal defense, one must have the right heart posture and compassion. It is not easy, but it's definitely necessary!! We pray that we have given her the tools to conquer the giants of this season, and we sincerely hope that she is more equipped to prevail as a Criminal Justice major and future Criminal Defense attorney. Without further ado, we introduce our summer intern, Ms. Janiya Walker.

Ms. Janiya Walker

Janiya was born in Pensacola, Florida, but has been a resident of Tennessee since the age of two. Janiya relocated to Memphis in 2018 and now calls Shelby County home.

Janiya obtained her High School diploma from White Station High School. During the 4 years of her high school career, she was a dedicated cheerleader, star roll student, and awarded student-athlete of the year in 2019. Prior to her relocation, she was a part of the Beta Club and National Honors Society. During her junior year of High School, she joined the Student Youth Council and was granted the opportunity to travel to Nashville and learn more about state legislation.

Janiya graduated as a star roll student with a 4.2 GPA. She is now an upcoming Sophomore at Tennessee State University, majoring in Criminal Justice. She is currently a Dean List student with a cumulative GPA of 3.72.

Janiya has begun her path to greatness and has big plans for the future. Once Janiya graduates from TSU, she plans to attend law school and become a criminal defense attorney. Janiya dreamed to become an attorney in elementary school, and she has taken steps to get closer to her dream.

When asked what propelled her into the Criminal Defense arena, Janiya proudly states, "While in high school, I represented a real client. I participated in a Youth Court program where I acted as a defense attorney in juvenile court. That inspired me to pursue the legal field. That experience as well as interning at The Washington Law Firm this summer has assured me even more that I am on the right career path."

Janiya aspires to be an effective advocate and desires to assist and educate others concerning their rights and the law. She plans to open her own law firm one day with the hopes of changing the outdated legal system, one case at a time. She plans to be fair, honest, and courageous by fighting for others who can’t fight for themselves.

The Washington Law Firm, PLLC believes that Ms. Walker is well on her way, and we say a temporary farewell and es**rt you with blessings and prayers. Until next summer, show TSU your greatness!!!
