Socialism, Communism, Marxism – there are a lot of “isms” floating around these days. Unfortunately, our school systems and mainstream media outlets do not always do a good job at teaching what all the “isms” mean and how they have resulted in the government’s confiscation of private property and the deaths of millions upon millions of innocent men, women and children over the course of history. If you are interested in learning the history and the horrors of socialism, communism, and Marxism; Hillsdale College offers a great FREE online lecture series entitled “Marxism, Socialism, and Communism” that explores the history and the real world meaning behind these failed social experiments. I have taken the course and can attest that it is interesting, enlightening, and informative. I hope you take the opportunity to take the course. It is so important that we, as citizens of a free nation, must reject socialism, communism, and Marxism and leave these failed social experiments in the dustbin of history where they belong. Cultural Marxism is destroying American society. It has led to the rise of racial tensions, radical feminism, transgender ideology, open borders, fiscal irresponsibility, the unequal protection of the laws, and the loss of our basic rights.

The effects of Marx’s ideas have already been seen in the histories of the Soviet Union and China. Yet Marxism remains popular among those who shape our cultural, academic, and political lives and in the popular movements pushing equity and diversity. All human relationships are now defined in terms of the systemic oppression of one group by another.

In “Marxism, Socialism, and Communism,” professors of history, politics, and economics look at Marx’s life and writings, the misery and brutality in the Soviet Union, the atrocities of communist China, and the proliferation of Cultural Marxism in America. They explore how many ideas animating American politics today are rooted in Marxism, and yet how they differ from Marx’s thought. By taking Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and the Frankfurt School seriously, we can see the injustice and evil inherent in all strands of Marxism. We also better understand the critiques of communism made by Mises, Hayek, and Solzhenitsyn. We are, therefore, better equipped to defeat it.

🇺🇸📜 August 2nd is the day the Founders actually put pen to parchment!🇺🇸📜

Congress approved the Declaration on July 4, 1776 — but the formal parchment copy wasn’t engrossed and signed until August 2. On July 19, Congress ordered the Declaration to be “fairly engrossed” on parchment and signed by every member. Timothy Matlack, a Philadelphia scribe, hand-lettered the document. On August 2nd, the delegates gathered at the Pennsylvania State House and began signing — John Hancock first, centered and bold, followed by delegates organized by state from New Hampshire to Georgia.

56 men ultimately signed. Not all were present that day. Some signed later. Some who voted for independence on July 4th had already left Congress. Some who signed on August 2nd hadn't even been delegates on the 4th.

Every signature was an act of treason against the Crown — and an act of faith in a new nation. 🇺🇸

On July 3, 1776 (250 years ago today), delegates of the Continental Congress edited the draft of the Declaration of Independence. About 25% of Thomas Jefferson's original text is altered or removed. The same day, John Adams wrote a famous letter to his wife Abigail following the Continental Congress's vote to move forward with the draft of the Declaration of Independence. He passionately predicted that the 2nd of July would forever be celebrated as the country's "great anniversary festival" and a day to be celebrated with "Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."

On July 2, 1776, after a long debate, representatives from 12 of the 13 colonies voted to declare independence from Great Britain. The colony of New York abstained. This historic vote marked the actual separation of the American colonies from the British Empire. John Adams famously believed that July 2 would be celebrated by future generations as the great American Independence Day. The courageous vote for independence forever changed what would become known as the United States of America as well as the world.

On June 28, 1776, the Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston (known as the committee of five) presented Jefferson’s draft of the Declaration of Independence to the Continental Congress. In 1818 John Trumbull memorialized this day in his famous painting. A full scale oil painting can be found hanging in the rotunda of the U.S. Capital building.
