Eric Hoffman is the elected Prosecuting Attorney for Delaware County which is Indiana's 46th Judicial Circuit. Eric graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science and then Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. s true passion is pursuing justice on behalf of those who have been victimized by crime, especially those who cannot protect themselves. Eric first joined the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office in 2001 as a law clerk. In 2003 he was hired as a full time Deputy Prosecuting Attorney within the office. From 2012 to 2019, Eric served as Delaware County’s Chief Trial Deputy Prosecutor. After winning election in 2018, Eric was sworn in as Delaware County's Prosecuting Attorney. Eric is licensed to practice law in every trial court in Indiana, the Indiana Court of Appeals, the Indiana Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He currently prosecutes most homicide cases and other selected crimes of violence. He also defends all of Delaware County’s criminal convictions in post-conviction relief actions. As Prosecuting Attorney, Eric is responsible for training and supervising the criminal division as well as the child support division of the Prosecutor’s Office. Eric often lectures at seminars providing continuing legal education for prosecutors. Some of the topics include the Indiana Rules of Evidence, child abuse and neglect, the insanity defense, and cross-examination. In recent years, Eric has become active in both enforcing and improving Indiana's failure to report child abuse and neglect statute. Eric currently serves as the Chairman of the Regional Child Fatality Team (Delaware, Grant, Randolph, Jay and Blackford Counties), member of the Indiana Statewide Child Fatality Review Committee, President of the Ball State University Advisory Board for the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, a member of the Delaware County Community Corrections Advisory Board, a member of two standing committees of the Indiana Prosecuting Attorney's Council: technology and diversion/deferral and forfeiture. In the past, Eric has served on the advisory boards for the Delaware County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program, Delaware County Mental Health Association, and the Ball Memorial Hospice Program.
