As many are still waiting for documents to file their Form 1040 tax returns here are some reminders about 2025 deductions, credits and tax rates.
President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill did bring some helpful improvements to typical annual changes left by previous administration.
The standard deduction for married couples filing jointly rose to $31,500; to $15,750 for single taxpayers and married individuals filing separately, and to $23,625 for heads of households.
The additional standard deduction amounts for taxpayers who are 65 and older or blind is $2,000 for single or head of household and $1,6000 for married taxpayers or qualifying surviving spouse.
New for 2025, seniors who are 65 and older may be eligible for additional deduction of $6000, or $12,000 if married filing jointly and both spouses are of qualifying age.
The Child Tax Credit (CTC) for dependents under 17 at the end of the tax year increased to $2,200 per each qualifying child, while the refundable portion, also known as the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) stayed at $1,700.
The maximum Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) amount is $8,046 for qualifying taxpayers who have up to three qualifying children.
The top tax rate remains 37% for individual single taxpayers with incomes greater than $626,351 ($751,601 for married couples filing jointly). The other rates are:
35% for incomes over $250,526 ($501,051 for married couples filing jointly);
32% for incomes over $197,301 ($394,601 for married couples filing jointly);
24% for incomes over $103,351 ($206,701 for married couples filing jointly);
22% for incomes over $48,476 ($$96,951 for married couples filing jointly);
12% for incomes over $11,926 ($23,851 for married couples filing jointly).
The lowest rate is 10% for incomes of single individuals with taxable incomes of $11,965 or less ($23,850 for married couples filing jointly).

Hello and welcome to the 2026 Tax Filing Season.

The IRS has announced that for all individual Form 1040 filers the season will open on Monday, January 26th; the IRS will begin accepting all paper and electronic tax returns on that day. And this years tax deadline date is Tuesday, April 15, 2026.

Businesses, like Form 1120/1120-S corporations and Form 1065 partnerships, will be able to start filing returns tomorrow, Tuesday, January 13th. Tax deadline for Form 1120S and 1065 filers is Monday, March 16th, while Form 1120 filers have additional time to file till Tuesday, April 15th, 2026.

Fourth and final Form 1040-ES estimated tax payments for 2024 are also due this Wednesday, January 15th, thus we do recommend paying them online at https://www.irs.gov/payments for instant receipt.

Hello,
As some of you are already aware, Eugeniusz "Eugene" Majkut, has sadly passed away last Monday in his home town of Grodzisko Dolne in Poland, he was the eldest brother of Global Tax Service owner Krystyna Golenia.
His funeral will be held this Saturday at a local church in Poland, so a Memorial Mass service will also be held the same day at 12pm, November 8th, at St. Joseph Polish Catholic Church at 391 High St, Central Falls, RI 02863.
All are welcome to attend and join in remembrance.

As the official tax season opening date for individual Form 1040 tax returns is now announced here are some reminders about 2024 deductions, credits and tax rates.

The standard deduction for married couples filing jointly rises to $29,200; to $14,600 for single taxpayers and married individuals filing separately, and to $21,900 for heads of households.

The additional standard deduction amounts for taxpayers who are 65 and older or blind are $1,950 for single or head of household and $1,550 for married taxpayers or qualifying surviving spouse.

The Child Tax Credit (CTC) for dependents under 17 at the end of the tax year, did not change from 2023 and is still $2,000 per qualifying child, if your modified adjusted gross income is $400,000 or below (married filing jointly) or $200,000 or below (all other filers). The refundable portion, also known as the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), is increased by $100 to $1,700.

The maximum Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) amount is $7,830 for qualifying taxpayers who have three or more qualifying children, up from $7,430 in 2023.

The top tax rate remains 37% for individual single taxpayers with incomes greater than $609351 ($731,200 for married couples filing jointly). The other rates are:
35% for incomes over $243,726 ($487,451 for married couples filing jointly);
32% for incomes over $191,951 ($383,901 for married couples filing jointly);
24% for incomes over $100,526 ($201,051 for married couples filing jointly);
22% for incomes over $47,151 ($$94,301 for married couples filing jointly);
12% for incomes over $11,601 ($23,201 for married couples filing jointly).
The lowest rate is 10% for incomes of single individuals with incomes of $11,600 or less ($23,200 for married couples filing jointly).

The IRS has announced that for all individual Form 1040 filers the season will open on Monday, January 27th; the IRS will begin accepting all paper and electronic tax returns on that day. And this years tax deadline date is Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

The Labor Day long holiday weekend came and went, so just a reminder, if you have not done your company's or your personal income tax returns but previously filed for an extension, here are the upcoming deadlines:

S-corporation Form 1120-S and partnership Form 1065 tax returns are due September 16th;

C-corporation Form 1120 and personal Form 1040 tax returns are due October 15th.

Now that we know the official tax season opening date here are some reminders about 2023 deductions, credits and tax rates.

The standard deduction for married couples filing jointly rises to $27,700 up $1,800 from the prior year. For single taxpayers and married individuals filing separately, the standard deduction rises to $13,850 for 2023, up $900, and for heads of households, the standard deduction will be $20,800 for tax year 2023, up $1,400 from the amount for tax year 2022.
The additional standard deduction amounts for taxpayers who are 65 and older or blind are $1,850 for single or head of household (increase of $100) and $1,500 for married taxpayers or qualifying surviving spouse (increase of $100).

The Child Tax Credit (CTC) is worth $2,000 per qualifying dependent child if your modified adjusted gross income is $400,000 or below (married filing jointly) or $200,000 or below (all other filers). The refundable portion, also known as the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), is worth up to $1,600.

The maximum Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) amount is $7,430 for qualifying taxpayers who have three or more qualifying children, up from $6,935 for tax year 2022.

The top tax rate remains 37% for individual single taxpayers with incomes greater than $578,125 ($693,750 for married couples filing jointly). The other rates are:
35% for incomes over $231,250 ($462,500 for married couples filing jointly);
32% for incomes over $182,100 ($364,200 for married couples filing jointly);
24% for incomes over $95,375 ($190,750 for married couples filing jointly);
22% for incomes over $44,725 ($89,450 for married couples filing jointly);
12% for incomes over $11,000 ($22,000 for married couples filing jointly).
The lowest rate is 10% for incomes of single individuals with incomes of $11,000 or less ($22,000 for married couples filing jointly).

Hello and welcome to the 2024 Tax Filing Season.

The IRS has announced that for all individual Form 1040 filers the season will open on Monday, January 29th; the IRS will begin accepting all paper and electronic tax returns on that day. And this years tax deadline date is Monday, April 15, 2024.

Businesses, like Form 1120/1120-S corporations and Form 1065 partnerships, will be able to file tax returns at an earlier date as IRS will begin accepting and processing those returns on Monday, January 15th. Tax deadline for Form 1120S and 1065 filers is Friday, March 15th, while Form 1120 filers have additional time to file till Monday, April 15th, 2024.
