Going international for my clients! Some document authentications are challenging and I'm the ONLY notary in the United States that has successfully facilitated authentications for clients with documents going to Syria.

SAVING TIME AT A CRUCIAL TIME! I am called many times to local hospice centers as I was today on Memorial Day Weekend. The difference here was that the client already had their Durable Powers of Atty for Finances complete. Yay! Not so fast....
The issue was that Charles Schwab would take a MONTH to review the existing power of attorney for approval. Therefore, they had their own 11 PAGE, witnesses required internal POA, requiring one for EACH account! It will still take 1 week to get these documents approved.
This reinforces my advice to clients about immediately forwarding/uploading a copy to all financial institutions (put it in your client file whether it's "normal" or not) to have on hand for when the critical and stressful times arise. This way, access to your funds is possible and not locked up for days/weeks or months (if you have to go to court due to incapacity prior to completing these documents).
This also applies to POA for Healthcare. Upload to your mychart or other online repository for medical professional access, which will likely include ER access. This way, they contact who YOU want contacted in the event of an emergency.
I thought I'd share this real world example in hopes you are not burdened with the same problem. Any financial institution has this potential for delays.

This week I had the pleasure of helping a family with a Health Certificate, so their child could obtain dual citizenship. It took having 3 medical professionals in the clinic to swear to the information and then I notarized the signatures. Clocks will be changing SOON!

My "WHY" in day to day life is to help people. I recently was provided this excellent information on assisting folks with dementia and time change. While I can't notarize for those that have dementia, it doesn't mean I can't share this with you as they can be someone close to you!

He’s the one who is ultimately responsible for the
extra hour of sleep most Americans will get when we
“fall back” at 2am on November 3rd this year.
Although he suggested the idea in 1784 to save
candles during winter mornings and nights, the
practice didn’t become official in the United States
until 1966 when Congress passed the Uniform Time
Act. Their intention was the same, to save energy.

The call comes many times at a moment of crisis, luckily they have mental clarity (which I test for). Others are not so lucky. Consider completing your powers of attorney for healthcare and finances in order to alleviate additional stress and the volatility of health fragility. Even a simple one would be better than nothing. If nothing, the courts decide and critical time can be wasted obtaining court decisions. They may not decide in a way you would prefer.
